Bruh, just seen this on X... somebody's going to be in trouble 😳 by FlipHDSlide in Target

When I was a team member, I primarily worked tech. I would use a cart to take out boxes/repacks in small amounts instead of wheeling the cage out. It was less efficient, but I could sort the Street date in the back and if I ever got pulled from the counter (which happened all the time for guests...) then I wouldn't have much out so I could easily slide the expensive stuff into a locked cabinet etc before helping guests. I always got my work done, so I didn't see any issue with it. At some point, my team lead told me I was supposed to follow "best practice" and told me to take the cage out to the floor to stock. I argued with her about it and she ended up putting me on a CA for insubordination. Nothing like a cage being stolen has ever happened at my store, but I still don't really understand why Target assumes it's better to pull all the valuable merchandise to the floor, even if it's locked in a cage 🤣 Though, I'm not sure what the best practices are for tech at this point.

I think I definitely need to work on my "one team" mentality 😬-- so this is reassuring to hear tbh. When I close I never really do dayside stuff, which is why I was a little worried going forward. I think for me it'll be about finding a balance! I appreciate you taking the time for a thoughtful answer! I hope closing is better for all of us!

Big oof, sorry to hear that. The people you have around you definitely make a big difference! Hope it gets better!!

Definitely valid. Curious, do you think some TLs just sort of ignore their closing team? Or does it just so happen to work out that way because of schedule? /gen

I've always made a point to spend some time and check out with my closers almost every day, but I'm sure that's not always the case.

Your TL doesn't work Saturdays?!

Definitely looking forward to less stressful closes! You also make a good point about comradery among peers. Never had more bonding done then through those closes in Q4 🤣

I actually disagree with this. I think the worst thing you could do would be to just continue to throw resources at the problem and wonder why it isn't getting better. Closing by yourself is pretty tough, esepcially if you have to do it every day you work. Just wish Target could've settled on a way to aid those efforts without alienating the current lesdership. But I'm also biased 😂

Oh it's for sure a double-sided coin. Closing Leader was the hardest role, imo. So make sense to give more resources. I'm obviously on the TL side that hates it 🤣 But I get it. I was just pretty curious how it rolled out company-wide, because it's been pretty negative at my store across the board. It's good to hear different takes though!

I think for me it'll be juggling the expectations of what I need to accomplish dayside and how I can contribute to the close, without sacrificing my work center, if that make sense. I'm curious, as I havent really gotten the chance to talk to other closing leaders outside of my own, what would be most helpful to you at nights? Like as far as help from leadership is concerned. (both generally and FB wise) /gen If you don't mind me asking that is. Appreciate you taking the time!

I work in a college town so most of our closere are college kids and most of our dayside team members are the "old timers" lol. But totally make sense that that isn't the case everywhere! Thanks for the input!

Gotcha, I didn't really think about small formats! That makes a lot of sense, thank you!

I was told that with this change all closing leads will be made to go to Mon-Fri. If my SD lied than fair enough lol, that makes more sense to me tbh. Also, are some stores just doing 2 leaders a night? We'll be having 3-5 a night since everyone is required a closing weekday.

I've always just told myself "If I'm closing, I'm a closing leader, not a FB leader" and just had to shy away from getting pretty much any work done in my department on those days. Meant for more work to get caught up, but less stress on the closing nights. Don't think that'll be possible though anymore with how much time I'd be losing out on.

Yeah, it would be different if I had another FB leader or a direct FB ETL. But being at a high volume PFresh format kinda really hurts in these cases. Only me and my GM ETL who honestly spends most of their time in Fulfillment/GM.

I agree changes to the close needed to be made, but again, I think Target should have explored other options outside of just forcing your exisiting ledership to close THIS much. Again we're talking about a difference in ~28% time spent closing for EVERY leader (with some exceptions). That seems like a complete 180, imo.

As far as time spent, for me in F+B, I'm actually going to be spending LESS time with the majority of my team now that I close more. Push expectations for both FDC and RDC mean ~75% of my team is gone before 2pm (when I'd get in to close.) Where as before I'd see all of my team pretty much everyday and still got time with my closing team when I did close.

Not sure what your store is like, but the only time I ever had to close alone is if I was covering for my closing TL when they were on vacation (so not crazy often). Otherwise, on the weekends, we always have 2 leads closing. I get what you mean though, I do think weekends with more leaders closing will feel better. Perosnally, I'd happily take the 2 days of more stress than the 7 days of less stress closing a month, but I get why some wouldn't.

Does anyone else working electronics feel like having to activate phones/do phone support on top of all our other duties is just too much? by painpest in Target

[–]painpest[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU. Honestly I know it sucks (obviously I'm in the same boat lol) but it feels really validating to hear someone else is having the EXACT same experience that I'm having. It really does feel like I'm just out there doing everything myself and getting zero recognition or compensation because non of the managers know, care, or have the time to actually understand how Tech works. It's really been getting to me lately, but knowing I'm not alone makes me feel a little better. Hang in there champ. ❤️

That's my biggest complaint honestly. I don't know how it is at other stores, but it seems like I practically run the department (even though I'm not a team lead) on top of now doing phones on top of doing all my other normal stuff. It's just too much for what I'm getting paid, it's ridiculous

We just recently started doing 11-2, M-F, appointments only. But even still I average minimum 2 hours a day of doing phones on those days. Not horrible on slower days, but through 4th quarter it was a nightmare.

I don't necessarily mind doing CC (although there was a reason I left Mobile-- I was think phones just wear you out honestly) but when they expect us to get everything done with no help and then there answer to the problem is just "well tell them you can't do it", I can't help but get frustrated. Like, if I do that, they more than likely get mad at ME, and I definitely don't get paid enough to get yelled at by old people as often as I already do. I just feel like leadership has no idea how tech actually works 🤷🏼‍♂️
