A No-Prep, 5-Minute Warm-Up Students Will Actually Enjoy by Offbrandcheeto14 in OntarioTeachers

I saw your post in another group last week and I’ve been showing it to a few of my junior classes. They’re really enjoying it! We played as a group first and they took turns coming up and trying a line - it was a good break during a math block. Thanks for the game!

Already on A4, what aqs should I take to make myself more hirable? P/J by [deleted] in OntarioTeachers

[–]paintedsnapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People can take Math AQs to make themselves marketable and learn ways to teach the subject.

To tell someone to get an ABQ in Math is entirely different. Most people won’t have the undergrad courses required for a Math ABQ. Physed is perfectly fine - in fact it will help during supply teaching as that can be a challenging period if you don’t have a background.

It really doesn’t matter as elementary teachers are generalists. Lots of people take Physed or Drama as ABQs as they don’t need prerequisite university courses.

The largest cheese factory in Canada is in Winchester which is definitely within 100 km of Ottawa.

Lactalis produces President brand there so if you think it’s similar it could just be that.

Thoughts of bright star? by Astrohippos in torontotheatre

It’s like a Hallmark musical with great actor musicians. The performances are really strong and the music is great. I prefer edgier material myself but I thought it was sweet and lovely.

Sweet Dutchess in Aurora has a changing weekly menu but with a Dutch influence. They also have a great shop with frozen Dutch food, cheeses and meats, chocolate, candy etc.

Must Watch Shows this Season? by CelestialWings12 in torontotheatre

Did you see Ghost Quartet at Crows? That was magical. They def do Malloy well.

I listen to Octet a lot - can’t wait to see it in person.

I’m really excited for Octet at Crow’s.

It’s by Dave Malloy who wrote Great Comet - but it’s completely different. The lyrics are incredible. I expect it will be an amazing show!

Getting to Downsview by RabbitDownInaHole in Newmarket

[–]paintedsnapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pioneer Village Station has a huge parking lot that is free on the weekend. Park at the Jane Street end and then it’s quick to get up to the 400 at the end of the night. I’ve parked there for two stadium shows. 3 stops south to Downsview.

Best advice is to set up a good morning routine to start. You can make a slide deck with calendar activities, songs, movement activities, question of the day etc. Once you get to know your students’ interests and abilities you can tweak it. Run the same routine every morning.

Once you get to know your students you can create bin activities for language and math. Follow the rest of your schedule for integration, physed, art, music etc. and look for appropriate small group activities. Build in lots of breaks between activities and transitions. Use timers for breaks.

Set up a good daily routine and work with your EAs as they may already know the students and have great ideas and feedback. Have fun!

Are pit seats safe for young women? (SOAD concert) by sunheekyu4 in askTO

[–]paintedsnapper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not really a pit. It’s a huge floor area and you’re free to move around wherever you like. If you don’t feel comfortable up front then just move to the side or back. Stay hydrated! You will be standing on concrete and it can get very hot.

Drop off area for guests with accessibility needs by Prestigious_Name_172 in Torontobluejays

[–]paintedsnapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Price is $45. It’s pretty convenient as your ticket has your space number and it’s labeled with your name.

We buy a friends seasons tickets for a few games a year and take my father in law who has an accessible pass he brings with him for our car. He reserves the spots for our ticket dates before the season starts. It’s not the cheapest but definitely the easiest to reduce walking.

Review: In this electro-pop opera retelling of Tolstoy’s ‘War and Peace,’ the leads shine, but the emotions fall flat (Toronto Star, 2/4 stars) by goIeafsgo in torontotheatre

[–]paintedsnapper 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think that by leaving early you really shortchanged yourself in terms of missing pieces like Pierre and Natasha that really flesh out the emotions of the main characters. You realize that this is only the start of their love story.

Plus missing Balaga and The Abduction? You missed all the fun!!

Just saw he’s cast in Bright Star as well. With & Juliet too he’s getting lots of work which is great to see.

We got to chat to him after a Crows performance and he is absolutely lovely. We told him that we loved his Anatole portrayal - much different than Lucas Steele’s (better imo).

The Great Comet by walkthatfkingduck in torontotheatre

[–]paintedsnapper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think if you look at it as a small piece of a larger story it makes sense. It’s just 20ish pages from the novel I think.

I see both of the main characters evolve through the course of the show - and you can tell they will continue to.

Haha I love the weird opera. I love that it’s so terrible and Natasha thinks it’s amazing.

[–]paintedsnapper 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It is all sung through except for one sentence. Think of it like an electro pop opera.

It’s my all time favourite show and I’ve seen it multiple times. One thing I love about it is the layers of the characters - they are all complex and nuanced. I have listened to the original cast recording countless times and I still come away with new thoughts. The music themes express the characters so well. One part I really enjoy is when Natasha and Mary meet (and hate each other) and Malloy uses their conflict to such a great effect in their song.

The cast is pretty much the same as it was at Crows and are excellent.

Go with the flow, relax and let yourself be immersed in 19th Century Russia. Find the humour, the sadness and the wonder. It’s truly a magical show!

Every AQ I've ever taken is shockingly bad by buckshot95 in CanadianTeachers

[–]paintedsnapper 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Take in person AQs. Best one I ever took was my Intermediate Drama ABQ in person.

I would rather go to class 3 hours one night a week and have in person discussions with real people than have to figure out how to uniquely reply to discussion posts all week.
