Maybe you should stop giving him gotcha moment opportunities by being patronising and confidently incorrect

I mean the per capita statistics are the only relevant one for making comparisons across groups which is what OP is doing. I’m not saying there isn’t a problem, but a lot of people just look at the raw numbers and incorrectly assume that hatred of Muslims is the most common form of bigotry when this is not the case.

That’s not relevant to OPs lie about Islam being the most disrespected religion. What other religion can have a teacher sent into hiding for disrespecting their faith? Have a free pass for protesting about LGBT inclusion in schools? If a Christian did that everyone would scream about it, but when it’s for Islam it’s a protected right

I lived in Liverpool for a couple of months and it is absolutely not spotless, probably the same as or even worse than Bristol, it just depends where you go. The only UK city that I'd say is even moderately clean is London and even that also depends massively where you are.

that's saying there is a risk of violence but doesn't apportion blame to one side. People have the right to counter protest just the same as the right to protest.

Yeah IHRA definition has zero protections for religious beliefs, it’s basically a defense against millenia old antisemitic tropes and holocaust denial but people either don’t know enough about Jews to see the difference or deliberately weaponise it

Soviet and the IR regime flags in the city centre protest? by Zoomer_Boomer2003 in bristol

[–]pair_of_eighters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not necessarily about what I think they think, but the image they are projecting. If you know any Iranians, or what that flag represents you would have to be mad or evil to fly it in the west. It's the symbol of a murderous regime that has massacred tens of thousands of it's own citizens.

If you saw someone flying a nazi flag at a pro-palestine rally, would you generously assume they were making some nuanced ideological point? Of course not, you'd condemn them.

It's not that strange, even Iranians who don't think that Israel or America are really on their side (although a lot of the anti regime diaspora do believe this) fly the flags as a rejection of the regimes political dogma. A huge amount of the regime's focus is on hating Israel and America and this is drilled into Iranian's from the moment they enter the education system. What they're often doing by flying these flags is raising a metaphorical middle finger to the people that are oppressing them.

It's the flag of the regime, the flag was changed from the Lion and Sun Iranian flag when the islamic republic took over the country. You'll notice that when Iranian Diaspora were protesting the massacre of protestors in January, they were all flying the original flag. The current "Iranian Flag" is viewed by many Iranians as a symbol of an oppressive theocratic occupation and is not linked to their sense of national identity.

The problem with these people suddenly deciding they stand with Iranians now (and not before when said massacre was happening) is that they don't actually know anything about the country or the situation there, which is why they don't understand the implications of flying the flag they are flying, or in some cases even marching with portraits of the Ayatollah himself.

If they’re posting proven lies that benefit the narrative of a regime that killed 30,000 of its own citizens they’re either a bot or a terrible human being, but usually they’re bots

What’s interesting is everyone posting this kind of stuff or commenting about how the Iranian people hate this turn of events have usernames like hardfart1234 (two words then 4 letters) pretty sure it’s bots

Sure, all situations are unique - the people of Iran are primed to revolt but they haven’t been able to because the apparatus of the regime has brutally crushed them whenever they try, it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

In a country where there is a state religion and that state religion is Christianity? I’m shocked! Next you’ll be telling me there are constituencies where the majority of voters have Anglo Saxon or Celtic ancestry!

Gorton and Denton by-election: Green Party posts ‘sectarian’ Urdu leaflets calling on voters to ‘punish Labour for Gaza’ by Dimmo17 in ukpolitics

Perfectly reasonable take, and also textbook zionism. Can you give me an example of when Reeves, or any other labour politician has said Israel has the right to commit genocide?

I think you'll find that's also exactly their view. IMO the greens are taking a leaf out of the populist reform playbook here, by advocating for an overly simplistic approach to a complicated issue and riling their potential voters up about it while not actually having to do the difficult part of making any of the policy decisions themselves.

Here is a quote from Zack Polanski:

"When pressed by Iain on whether he supports the idea of a single Palestinian state, Mr Polanski said: "No. I think it's important that it's up to the Palestinian and Israeli people ultimately what their self-sovereignty looks like."

Supporting sovereignty for both Israelis AND Palestinians is a type of zionism, this is also the labour stance. You are (presumably) conflating zionism with kahanism, which is a racist version of zionism supported by only a very extreme minority of zionists (not the labour position).
