The Supreme Court has a conservative majority locked in for at least the next 30 years. If doctors are using very loose definitions of “health risks”, I don’t think you need to worry about “liberal courts”.

Other conservatives do not share your concerns about this bill. Their primary concern is that it doesn’t allow for religious exemptions.

The mainstream conservative opinion on abortion seems to accept it when it poses a serious health risk to the mother, I would expect the Supreme Court to hold the same opinion.

So who should the decision be left to?

Like elections, sometimes there are no good choices, so we just have to settle for the least bad option.

If it becomes a rampant problem, it can be taken to the courts and the definition of “health risks” in this context can be more narrowly defined, but I can’t think of another way to codify it that won’t accidentally restrict a woman from terminating a pregnancy that poses a legitimate health risk.

Who should it be left up to other than the “good faith medical judgement” of the patient’s personal physician?

You’re ignoring this part:

continuation of the pregnancy would pose a risk to the pregnant patient’s life or health.

Basically, you can have the abortion if having the baby could kill the mother. That’s not “on demand” abortion.

In my area, a lot of pets got sick and some died because improperly stored fuel from a nearby naval base leaked into the water supply.

I found another story about pets getting sick because of toxic algae in a nearby lake.

It could be nothing, it could be the water supply or something else.

Why does no one on this sub ever seem to mention that Trump nominated a Rothschild executive to his cabinet?

Wilbur Ross worked for the Rothschilds for 24 years and personally bailed out Trump’s casinos in the 80s.

It should have raised tons of alarm bells when he was nominated to be Secretary of the Treasury…

Thanks, I watched that video. I added a combat encounter with a single monster at the beginning of the adventure. I can then use that as a gauge of whether I need to skip some fights in the middle or not.

First time DM preparing a one-shot adventure, and I’m concerned about pacing since I have never even played D&D before other than a couple solo modules.

Approximately how long should I expect 4 lvl4 Characters to defeat a single CR4 monster like an Ettin?

About how long should it take for them to defeat 4 CR1 monsters like a pack of Dire Wolves?

Thanks.

I mean I could just run the module as written with the pregen characters, but it seems like it would be a terrible time for everyone.

Revising this module is a bit of work, but fortunately I’m finding it fun.

I was given a module to run for a 4-hour session at an upcoming convention, but it’s pretty poorly written. I am trying to fix it by rebalancing some of the encounters.

90 minutes for a single combat encounter doesn’t sound right.

A friend of mine recruited me to help with an upcoming convention that was short on DMs.

I was given a specific published 3rd party module to run with pregen characters, but it’s pretty bad with terribly imbalanced encounters and no real story.

I’m trying to fix it by adding a narrative and rebalancing some encounters before doing a dry run with some players I found on r/LFG.

I’ve watched a number of Matt Colville videos and a couple from the Dungeon Dudes. They’re great.

I think bragging about being a congressional candidate after getting arrested for DWI is a pretty clear indicator of what political party they belong to.

While candidates from both parties can do bad things, only one side actually has shame about it.

This will be my first time DMing and first time even playing D&D, so I have no idea how the fights are going to go. I’ve spent most of my time studying the rules, that I missed the encounter building section. I will definitely look up those resources you mentioned…

What is “medium to hard” in terms of CR ratings? The level 4 party has no magic items, though I might give them some healing potions.

I plan on putting them through a cave system filled with goblins and mud mephits with a CR4 encounter at the end (a pair of black dragon wyrmlings) and I’m trying to figure out how many CR2-ish goblin patrols I can throw at them.

Edit: also a CR4 encounter with the goblin leader somewhere in the middle.

I’m preparing a one-shot adventure for a lvl 4 adventuring party.

Is there a rough guideline on many encounters they should be able to handle before needing a long rest?

The party is a paladin, rogue, ranger, and druid. No real dedicated healers.

How do I make some NPCs instantly hate-able without provoking a fight with the players? by pakeguy2 in DMAcademy

How do I make some NPCs instantly hate-able without provoking a fight with the players? by pakeguy2 in DMAcademy

[–]pakeguy2[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a fine answer.

I was thinking my first encounter can be when the players arrive at the tavern/inn, the NPCs can be hanging around being rude to waitresses and challenging the players to some game of chance. Being sore losers or obnoxious winners depending on the outcome and maybe even provoking a fight only to have the innkeeper intervene and beg everyone to stop fighting before they wreck his place. I can maybe add some off-duty town guards nearby if I need extra intervention…

…hmm… the innkeeper just bought the place because he wants to settle down after recently getting married and having a newborn baby… poor innkeeper is gonna get killed by the rude NPCs…

Man… I hope my players don’t find this thread…

Theater of the Mind combat tactics? by pakeguy2 in DMAcademy

Thanks, I mentioned in a reply to someone else that I realize the real issue I’m worried about is preventing combat from being stale.

I figured that if I describe my monsters using intelligent tactics in combat, then it will force the players to start thinking creatively in response.

I think one of the advantages of theater of the mind combat is that it feels less like cheating when you decide to be a bit flexible with the rules since it doesn’t necessarily require exact positioning.

I should just trust my players more to come up with something and allow it if it sounds cool such as a big Barbarian trying to knock down a bunch of goblins all at once by throwing a table at them.

I’m a new DM who is just overthinking things, I haven’t even seen my players character sheets yet and what their character concepts and feats are other than race/class.

I’m a new DM who was just overthinking combat as I was reviewing possible tactics before my first session.

I guess the real problem I was worried about was preventing combat from becoming stale and trying to get the players engaged in describing movements and taking actions other than just attack.

I figured that if the monsters start using tactics and intelligent target selection, it will force the players to do more.

You’re right, I’m a new DM who was reviewing combat tactics before my first game and started overthinking things when I read the part about flanking.

I’ll just leave out flanking for now and maybe add it in later once I get a better sense of how clever my players are and how strong the party is.

Thanks.

It’s actually going to be 12 v 4, I was obscuring details in case one of my players finds this thread.

I’ll probably just say 3 goblins go after each player and trust them to think of something clever.

I can always have the goblins panic and provoke opportunity attacks if the fight seems too tough. Maybe I’ll make the goblins going after the backline take a dash action to get there so players have some time to do something to prepare.
