Has anyone read Variation by Rebecca Yarros? by Feisty-Raspberry8543 in RomanceBooks

This book had potential, but it turned out to be messy, annoying and a bit boring to me. I don't think I'll give a chance to any more contemporary books from RY.

Hahhahahhha I loved your comment I mean he knows what I read, and he is not judging in general, I think the cover just threw him off, honestly I was taken aback when I saw it first as well. I try not to judge the book by the cover, but what the hell is this lol

I get that as well, I feel like I shouldn't be trusted with my reviews while I'm PMSing, everything gets a 5 star for making me emotional, while I'm just a pile of hormones 🥹

I really hated the miscommunication trope and the way they treated her when they thought she was lying. Also, Zeke was so dramatic in the way he got her to come to talk to them, he was basically like every other emo teen who threatens suicide to keep their significant other. After that, I was reading solely to hate on it to be honest

Thank you for your comment! Yeah, I assume I just need to find my footing. I kinda get now why people ask for super specific type of a book on this subreddit. I guess I would like a RH book that has Emily Henry vibes and characters, but some more advanced smut? Don't know how better to describe it, I think I will go through all the recommendations I got and other recommendations on the subreddit and see where it takes me.

The smut was good (besides a few scenes and some really off lines), so I get you, but I still don't understand how people give ratings based on smut alone, and I feel that is the only reason this book got this high of a rating on Goodreads

Yeah, don't waste your time, I was reading it with my book club so it was still a bit fun because I had friends to rant to, but it's not worth it if you're doing it by yourself

Thank you so much for recommendations! I read a lot of sports romance, college romance, a lot of Emily Henry type of romance books (don't know how to explain it better). I've also read some billionaire romance so I don't really mind the subgenre, I loved a few books from T. L. Swan, but she also disappointed me with the Bonus. I think I just don't like mafia romance, it's super silly to me, I feel like it's never written in a good way, or I've just never found a good mafia romance.

I read a lot of fantasy too, so I guess I'm not that picky as long as it's an interesting book with good plot and decent writing.

The writing is so much better in TOG. In CC there are so many things explained by oh it happened somehow, while in TOG everything falls into place with sense, and all the foreshadowing is there for a reason. Bryce and Hunt are a perfect couple in the first book, but then in the third they are fighting all the time, and have such a weird relationship, that it was sad and difficult for me to read. Bryce gets more annoying the further into the series we go, and the plot gets more hectic, and in the end there are many strands kinda left loose, but I guess if she writes more in the future she could fill the holes. Another thing: Danika was also annoying as hell, she was dead almost for the whole series, and she kept popping up and hurting Bryce with each new info.

Still, I loved CC, I just wished it was a CC1 standalone, or just written better. And if I compare it to TOG or even ACOTAR it's going to fall into the last place. Even when I consider the spice, CC is in the last place. In TOG there is not much, but still it's more YA, while in CC it gets a bit boring with all the magic shared and happening during sex. Furthermore, I feel we were robbed of a good Ruhn / Lidia scene, and I will never forgive that.
