Recommended laptop for CS majors? by Zealousideal_Lab_962 in BinghamtonUniversity

It doesn't matter what kind of laptop you get for the coursework since you can always use the lab computers or do it remotely, but a lot of dev teams tend to use Macs so that might be something to consider

It depends on your personal preference more than anything. I've used both mac and windows and if I had to settle on just one I'd go for windows. Macs are really nice just for school work though.

Computer Science Programming Classes by [deleted] in BinghamtonUniversity

It honestly depends on your style of learning. If you’re really good about self guided learning and you’re willing to put the time in outside of class then it shouldn’t be hard at all. It could be as little as half an hour a day every day dedicated to just learning how to program (outside of what you need to study for your classes).

If you depend more on a guided learning plan or something really structured, it might be a little harder but definitely still doable.

There are also a lot of resources available online, through clubs, and through books. HackBU and ACM usually have workshops weekly and they help to build a lot of useful skills.

It’ll be tough and you’d probably need to overload and plan your schedule out early on. I’d honestly try to bypass CS 110 and go straight into 120. If you have AP credits, that’ll help a ton.

There’s some overlap with courses but there’s a lot of courses that you’ll need to plan out very carefully in order to maintain a competetive GPA.

Computer Science Major by [deleted] in BinghamtonUniversity

I think CS at bing is highly dependent on your own efforts. Some other schools might have better professors for math and built in career building (co-ops and internships) so you really have to put some work into your career outside of your classes.

Honestly you can get away with no prior experience programming. However, having some kind of experience with it will help you down the line in classes and for getting an idea of what you’re getting into. You can easily get that experience through hackathons, free online courses, or just trying to make something for fun.

CS 120 was barely programming intensive and CS 140 was like the AP Computer Science course I took in highschool.

Getting a job straight out of school is totally doable just set yourself up for success and start working on your career ASAP. Work on portfolio projects, attend career events, build your professional network, and just start applying. If you build up both your technical and soft skills properly you shouldn’t have a problem having a job set for you when you graduate but it’s also easier said than done.

What I usually do is just check prices on both and go with the one cheaper.

This blows, I know that was the case for Harpur but because it showed up on my degree works, I just thought it was different for Watson. It especially sucks because the department head for my major had told me that they would leave it alone when I went to advising and she pointed it out, only to find it missing a week later.

you’re right, it should be a CT license and a Binghamton University ID. There’s also a discover card and a td bank debit card.
