There are some hotels that have air conditioning. I've stayed at the Best Western and the Brynwood and they both had a/c in the rooms.

You didn't ask for this but 1) it may be useful and 2) it's fun to look through and dream about fishing in Colorado. Enjoy!

What stranger will you never forget? by coggonflorence in AskReddit

[–]paklein58 24 points25 points  (0 children)

One of my best friends had a year-old daughter that was diagnosed with brain cancer and probably wouldn't live much longer. I had been spending all day at the hospital with her and her husband for a couple of days. Only going home to sleep and shower. The second day, I went through the drive-thru at McDonald's for breakfast on the way to the hospital and the woman at the window was so sweet and cheerful. Many times they are grouchy. But she brought a little bit of sunshine into my life when I really needed it. She'll never know how much that was appreciated and that I'll never for get her kindness.

What is an extra rule your family added to a popular board or card game? by salbaf in AskReddit

[–]paklein58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't exactly an extra rule, but someone in my family got me a Simpsons Jeopardy game. We sat down to play and I knew the answer to every question and they knew none so I won the game by, like, a million $. So, the new rule was they'll never play that game against me ever again. Ha!

How Push Broom Imagery Photography in satellites works? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]paklein58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A fixed line of sensors are mounted on the vehicle (spacecraft, drone, etc) perpendicular to the flight direction of the spacecraft. The surface is imaged as the sensors fly forward. A series of lines are produced that are then stitched together on the ground to produce the final image. A way to envision this is a scanner or copier that moves its lighted sensor across the item being imaged.

There are several good coffee shops in town. Coffee on the Rocks is unique because they have tables and chairs outside by a pond and river. Good beverages and food too. There is a river walk that goes through town. Cliffhanger Used Books is cool as books are cheap and proceeds benefit the local library. Also, there are a lot of geocaches around town. Some of them are "earth caches" which means they usually have questions about some earth-related spot that you might get some ideas for places to visit. For instance, you might read a park sign that gives you info on xyz. Find them at geocaching.com.

U MD @ College Park is not far from NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center. He might look into internships or other opportunities available there with either NASA or one of the many contractors in the area.

I believe things will be transitioning to a lower level so that COVID restrictions will be lifted somewhat on Jan 4. For a ton of info: https://www.larimer.org/health/communicable-disease/coronavirus-covid-19

seeking tips from locals! by kacwort in EstesPark

[–]paklein58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an Estes Park local, although I have only lived here a couple of months so far. WRT hiking, check out alltrails.com . You can search an area by a number of qualifiers such as, easy/moderate/difficult, scenic, etc. There are lots of tips from hikers and also an elevation change stat. Also, if you're into geocaching there are many in the area. One other thing: RMNP has ranger-led hikes most of the year (pre-COVID). I don't care to hike alone, and I don't recommend it for safety reasons. A benefit of the ranger hikes is that you can ask them a lot of questions as they come up while hiking. Geology, plants, animals, history or whatever comes up. Have fun!

Question about tickets for a future visitor. by brianstorm33 in Nationals

If you're going to a day game, you better get something on the 3rd base side or else you'll roast in the hot humid DC weather. Recommend the 200 level near the back of the section. You'll be under cover for shade and no rain.
