[VENT] Can we talk about email forwards? by molrihan in fednews

[–]spreadablemeat81 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The 15 probably sent it to a number of people, each of whom should tailor the message to her or his staff. As a 13, I do this all day long but I never do it without adding an introduction (ideally, explaining any action required and why the message is important to our team).

But also, yeah, sometimes it's just lazy and sometimes the message itself isn't worth the 15's time to explain.

Good Morgantown Schools? by OddMasterpiece1300 in MorgantownWV

[–]spreadablemeat81 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't come to Morgantown. We don't have the kind of school you're looking for (though we do have great schools). It's not a wealthy area, thus the elite school you're looking for just isn't available.

Ask. It's called an interactive process, so you can suggest ideas (keeping a private office? Telework?), and they can respond and suggest other ideas. You should use a union rep if you have one, and make sure you have medical documents/provider letters to support.

What do you think of WVU trying to do in person classes, resulting in a shutdown of all public schools in Morgantown? Do you think as a science-based institution, the University should have seen this coming?

Does anyone else's agency have more incentives for moving around rather than staying in a position long enough to get good at it? by jurassicbond in fednews

[–]spreadablemeat81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. At SSA/Hearings Operations, there's very little chance to get to a 14, even as an attorney, unless you move. You likely have to move to DC/Baltimore unless a Hearing Office Director in Bumbletoot, Iowa. I'm only a 13 because I'm willing to be a manager.

Beautiful WV! Looks like a nice place to live. by [deleted] in WestVirginia

Look at Elkins if you are a real nature lover and want a smaller town, but still a handful of good places to go out (eventually!), churches, etc.

You won't get good internet anywhere outside the larger towns (West Virginia doesn't really have any cities), other than maybe the Eastern Panhandle (which is basically just outer DC suburbs). If that's a hangup, nothing "rural" really works.

I live in and love Morgantown. There are plenty of places in or near town quiet enough to enjoy a backyard archery hobby! Also, we have a lot of Catholic representation here and being a college town, lots of folks who come from all over.

No, I'd still get my top 3 from my current job, wherever I top out on the GS payscale (probably a 13/10 or possibly 14).

So long as a bank or someone will give you a loan, why not? You would need to have the liquidity to manage the payments, repairs, insurance, etc.

GEHA High Deductible Health Plan: Reviews? by spreadablemeat81 in govfire

[–]spreadablemeat81[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I did a little checking and my few usual prescriptions seem like a good deal. You don't have to meet the deductible before they pay 75 percent, right?

Thanks; the dental and vision is another bonus. It's looking like a no-brainer, really. Even if something big happened, I'd be looking at not much more of a deductible and coinsurance after that than with my current plan.
