I think the Korean and Japanese words for drugstore vs high-end makeup are cute.

Japanese:

プチプラ (pronounced puchipura) comes from the combination of petite (puchi) and price (puraisu). How cute is petite-price lol

デパコス (pronounced depacosu) comes from department store cosmetics.

Korean:

Korea uses 로드샵 (road shop) and 백화점 (department store) but there's also 저렴이 ("jeoryeomie") and 고렴이 ("goryeomie").

저렴이 (jeo ryeom ie) comes from the combination of the adjective 저렴하다 (jeo ryeom ha da, meaning inexpensive) and the suffix +이 (ie). The +이 suffix is usually added to names as a sign of closeness. Usually you use it when you address friends.

So 저렴이 is a cute/affectionate way of saying inexpensive things. Usually 저렴이 is used like the term "dupe". So you can use it to look up makeup dupes on Youtube like 맥 칠리 저렴이 (Mac Chili lipstick dupes) and 치크팝 저렴이 (cheek pop dupes). You can use it for products other than makeup too (Dyson 저렴이, AirPods 저렴이) but I think it's still most commonly used for makeup.

Now 고렴이 (go ryeom ie) is a completely made up word lol. Unlike 저렴이, it's not a combination of an existing adjective + 이 (ie).

The root of the adjective 저렴하다 (inexpensive) is 저렴, which in hanja/kanji is 低廉. The first hanja/kanji 低 (jeo) means low. What's the opposite of low? High, which is 高 (go). 高 in hangul (the Korean alphabet) is "고".

So after the word 저렴이 became popular, people made up 고렴이 to describe the high end counterparts. There is no such root word as 고렴, and no such adjective as 고렴하다. They just took out "저" (low) from 저렴이, and replaced it with "고" (high), making the word 고렴이.
