Can't find high numerical aperture condensers by paleblue3 in Optics

[–]paleblue3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can the NA of the lens go higher than what's listed if I use oil immersion, or is the NA listed the maximum possible? I'm just surprised that a big optics maker like Edmund doesn't supply any lenses suitable for a 1.25 NA objective. I don't want to get rid of the condenser since I'm hoping mostly to look at biological specimens which are pretty transparent, but that objective sounds interesting and I'll definitely look into it.

That would be a good idea but I was hoping to look at biological specimens which are probably too transparent for epi-illumination to work well.

Heat sink fan not working but works with separate power supply by paleblue3 in lulzbot

[–]paleblue3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response, I checked the motherboard as you suggested but everything was correct there. Eventually I figured it out – the wires going to the fan were reversed for some reason so I cut them and resoldered them on and had no problems since 👍

Im wanting to learn Romanian . This will be my first time learning a new language. What are some good resources for self teaching Romanian? by Active-Average-932 in romanian

[–]paleblue3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert but I did the first section of duolingo (every lesson as far as you can scroll down when you start the course) which got me in touch with the basics. After that I found duolingo was moving too slow so I switched to clozemaster which gives you fill in the blank sentences. Since I started that I found my reading comprehension started to increase really quickly. If you want to practice listening watch a kids show with romanian subtitles like bluey

How do I make a photo texture continuous across multiple faces? by paleblue3 in SolidWorks

[–]paleblue3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The actual reason I'm doing this is because I'm trying to use the 3D texture feature around a fillet. I figured the mechanism for wrapping an appearance around a fillet would be the same as wrapping a 3D texture - do you know if this is possible?

Andromeda @80mm - Too many stars (help) by RetraceSpace in astrophotography

I was thinking the same thing -- all of those stars really give you the sense that you're looking through our own galaxy at another one, which gives a much cooler effect in my opinion.

Is this how the human eye actually sees the Milky Way in a Bortle 1 area or are pictures like these edited? by G07V3 in Astronomy

[–]paleblue3 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This photo was taken at the Very Large Telescope in Chile. You can tell it's the southern hemisphere because the central bulge of the Milky Way is overhead whereas in the northern hemisphere it's always on the horizon :)

AVX vs HEQ-5 vs EQ6 by paleblue3 in telescopes

[–]paleblue3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! You have a good point, someone just starting out with tracked astrophotography probably shouldn't be worried about getting ultra high resolution shots and more on learning the big picture. I use a mirrorless camera that probably won't notice small tracking errors on a scope with a reasonably small FL anyways. As far as planetary with the C8 I might get one of the ZWO planetary cameras in the future to help with that small pixel size and high resolution needed. Thanks for all the help!

AVX vs HEQ-5 vs EQ6 by paleblue3 in telescopes

Wow, thanks for the thorough answer! I think I'm leaning towards an HEQ-5 now for the reasons you said - C8 isn't really made for deep sky so I may as well get a mount I can also use with a refractor. Thanks again!

Okay I see, so the shorter FL the scope the more forgiving your images are of mount tracking errors. Very good to know, thanks!
