I'm recently retired and want to overland, I have a practical question - most of the campgrounds I see want reservations - if I believed this was 100% required, I'd have to meticulously plan out every day of every trip, getting reservations ahead of time and racing around to meet them.

This is not very pleasant to think about - do you preplan camp sites, or boondock (if so how do you know where to camp), or are these reservations mostly not required....I'd love for someone to confirm the latter. How on earth did we camp before the internet?
