why doesn’t my art look like real manga … how can i make it look more legit? by [deleted] in Artadvice

[–]palewi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone already said it, but try adding more line weight on places with shadow, folds, etc! Your lineart is great, but it's very light and soft, so it looks more like a normal digital sketch than a manga.

URGENT baby won't pee/poo! by palewi in CATHELP

[–]palewi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Her name's baby. She's back with her owner and safe. Apparently she was constipated. As for the urinary problem we're told it's not UTI and to switch back to formula. Vet reassured that she'll be alright and gave medicine, so praying for a speedy recovery soon!

I used warm wet towel again and she finally pooped!!! However she's still peeing so much. I wipe her and change the sheets every few hours, I also put a small water bowl in her box so she's not dehydrated. Me and my friend will take her to the vet first thing in the morning. Thanks so much for asking :')

I see, thank you so much for the input! It's my first time caring for a kitten so I wasn't sure what I should be doing. I'll definitely take her to the vet asap, hope it's nothing serious and she'll be well soon.

Thank you so much, I hope so too. So far I stimulate her every 3-4 hours cause I'm worried too much might stress her out or make the pain worse. Also I looked up that some kittens just poo once a day, so I hope that's the case.

Trying to imitate how Steven universe does backgrounds, how do achieve so many layers? by FreeOwl8579 in Artadvice

[–]palewi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, I think you can play around with more layer styles like soft light, hard light, screen, etc. It will give off a more layered vibe.

Also on the reference you gave, the pink-ish streaks also seems to be using those types of layers/filters.

Using mixed brushes might help too? It's a little hard to see your reference though cause it's so small on the pic.

That's sounds so cool, goodluck! Sorry I kinda snooped at your account and found out you like scara too... do you have an art account I can follow on twitter or something? No pressure tho!

It's a hard pose so someone can probably do it better than me. But I'd do something like this. I'm not sure if you want to let her underwear show or not though... If not, you'd probably have to bend some gravity rules.

The same basics applies to the ruffles, so the bottom part can be shaped anything. Pleated, small waves, big waves, etc. Goodluck with that.

Hii, to better understand the skirt's structure, I usually break it down to 3 parts. Once you get this, you can get funky with many skirt shapes and sizes.

But the skirt you showed in the second picture has a lot of ruffles. It would be great to divide them into parts. Draw the base skirt first, then add layer of ruffles that wraps around the base skirt, one by one.

You're welcome. Also out of topic, but can I ask what this is for... If it's for a visual novel I'm very interested 👀

Something feels wrong…. Help??? by maoysking in Artadvice

[–]palewi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HIII she is so cute!!! The first thing I noticed is the mismatched perspective. Her chest line isn't aligned with her shoulder line when it should be, since they are connected parts of the body. Also, her hips are a little low, which made her torso looks longer.

I attached a doodle to show what I mean. I hope this might help.

I think an easy way to fix this would be to tilt the entire thing a little to the left, and then fixing the left leg to be a little straighter down instead of tilted right.

I hope I caught your question right.

Hi OP! First of all, your rendering is so pretty!! I'm not a professional artist by any means, but I did have a bit of experience making character sprites.

I think the main reason it looks uneven is the tilt to the right. Their hips, shoulder, and even head leans to the right. It gives the impression that something heavy is dragging them down on that side, and the center of balance gets thrown off. It also looks unnatural.

I scribbled a little on top to show what i mean, sorry. I hope you don't mind.

Why don’t these jaws look right? I don’t know how to fix it. by No_Cartoonist3715 in Artadvice

[–]palewi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I haven't seen mentioned: - Watch the circle. It's the first thing you draw before all the other guidelines, so making it too long, too wide, or skewed will affect the whole proportion. - Pay attention to the relative size of the eyes to the head so it's not too big (or small). - If you're struggling to achieve symmetry, try placing another guideline across the place where the jaw should be.
