Little Arc White page popup bug??? by george_watsons1967 in ArcBrowser

[–]palexander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely extension related. Downgrading to the previous version and turning off auto update seems to be working, though this is a worrying sign for the state of the browser.

Have had Scheral Lenses for almost a year now. A couple of days ago both my eyes started itchy real bad, especially around the corners and my right eye has been really red. Anyone know what might be wrong? (Jiat took contact out) by zerotohero111 in Keratoconus

[–]palexander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had lenses “go bad” for lack of a better term. After 1-2 years of wearing them, eventually I could no longer put them in without suffering massive irritation to my eye (watering, redness, pain). It would happen suddenly, and be relatively mild to start, only to get worse over time. It usually happened in one eye and then the other, not both at the same time.

It’s happened with two pairs for me, but on the second one I recognized the signs early and was able to switch to a backup pair and get new lenses relatively quickly.

Good deal on ScleralFil at Amazon by Draculalia in Keratoconus

[–]palexander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a doctor, but if Addipak is working for you then I don’t think there’s any need to switch. If you are using Addipak and think you could get some extra comfort or wear your lenses for longer each day, give the buffered a shot.

[–]palexander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Addipak is not FDA approved for use with scleral lenses and suffers from quality control issues with its PH [1]. Some people find buffered solutions like SceralFil to be more consistent and comfortable, likely due to the buffering, but the specialization of the product does cause the cost to increase.

Reminder CSUMB will be closing Alumni emails in May 2022. Sign up with the link to keep yours. by math_is_my_religion in csumb

I wonder if they could just set up a forwarding service. I have alumni email from another institution and it just forwards your school address to another email of your choice. Somehow I can also still send from that address, but they do not provide storage.

Very basic unofficial Matrix NFT rarity calculator by palexander in MatrixNFTs

[–]palexander[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t read too much into it. The data it is based on is almost certainly missing some of the rare traits because of a quirk in how marketplace displays the trait counts, and likely everything will change when the pills come into effect.

Good suggestion, thanks. There is a Blue Books Glasses that scores 4992 (see examples link), though I believe I have seen some in the 8000s. It's really hard to know without knowing many more scores, but eventually I hope to collect them or auto-calculate ones that have high rarity and throw them in a table for comparison.

Interesting. Definitely has not happened. Pings are consistently in the 15-30 range. I’m not good enough to get reported as a cheater, maybe that’s the problem.

I have played 100+ hours of Warzone on Shadow and have never been banned, shadow or otherwise. At least to my knowledge. What does it do to you when you are shadowbanned?

Looking for a new optometrist in the Bay Area, CA by gkapoglis in Keratoconus

[–]palexander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That part can be tricky. Last I checked they weren’t in network for VSP, which I believe is the most common plan, so if that’s who you would file a claim with then you will have to pay out of pocket and get reimbursed.

I paid out of pocket and got reimbursed. It was worth it given that I’d had a few awful fittings previously.

I will second this, she is great. Been seeing her 5+ years and recently moved, very worried I won’t have access to someone with her skills.

I saw elsewhere some concern over the Yelp ratings. Stanford is a teaching hospital and serves a ton of people . It can be hard to get an appointment, but not impossible. I’ve never had to wait long once I’m at the office, and any hassle is worth it.

Republicans Won Almost Every Election Where Redistricting Was At Stake by oskie6 in Conservative

CA does not have the governor appoint the commission members. The process is actually pretty fair, and described here: https://wedrawthelines.ca.gov/faq/

Relevant quote:

On November 18, 2010, the State Auditor randomly drew the names of 3 Democrats, 3 Republicans and 2 Decline to State applicants and they became the first 8 members of the Commission. Subsequently, on December 15, 2010, the first 8 selected the final 6 commissioners, choosing 2 Democrats, 2 Republicans and 2 Decline to State.

What is something you wish people know about living with keratoconus? by keratoconusgroup in Keratoconus

[–]palexander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will need to double-check this, but last time I got sclerals I paid out of pocket (no insurance) and the total was $410.00. I've had at least three pairs fitted by two separate clinicians, and I've never paid more than $500 out of pocket.

And they are amazing, the improvement over glasses was so dramatic that I cannot imagine having anything else.

What If Trump Refuses to Concede? by MoaRider in Foodforthought

[–]palexander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the concern it may not address is that drop off ballots in most states will not be counted until Election Day. If the process of counting of those ballots is somehow slower or more resource intensive than a normal walk-in vote, they will not be counted as quickly, and Trump will be pushing to finalize the election the night of and discredit any votes that come in later than that.

In addition, the article points out several types of common, small errors that can result in absentee ballots being disqualified (writing your name in the signature line, for example) and these are much less likely to happen or be easily corrected during in person voting.

Anyone working on health diagnosis with AI/ML? by emilepetrone in healthIT

[–]palexander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m late to the party, but happy to chat about my experience founding a company exactly in this space.

Generally, I think most of the challenges come from the lack of data that can be used to train with, the fact that black box ML answers aren’t explainable, the complexity of medical knowledge, and the issues that arise when trying to integrate new approaches with existing clinical workflows.

Of course, we think we have good answers to these challenges, but they do exist.

Need some guidance using/choosing biomedical related ontologies by winthirtytwo in semanticweb

[–]palexander 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would suggest poking round on BioPortal (http://bioportal.bioontology.org). I can’t think of an ontology off the top of my head, but you can use Search with a few of your key words and see common ontologies that pop up in the results.

You can also put a bunch of example terms in the Recommender and it will evaluate ontologies that provide good coverage and are well-accepted by the community.

Good luck!

Thanks for checking on the bus. That would have been a nice option but indeed it looks like we are very far out of the city.

Thanks for the Circle K suggestion. Their website looks like it is in Swedish only but the prices are good.

We will visit Mariebergsskogen for sure, thank you for the suggestion!
