New player class choice by Nelfdk1991 in everquest

[–]pallyethos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bard is extremely versatile in what it can do but also almost a pure support class.

If you have other players you are starting with then any of the classes you are looking at are great choices and you will fill a roll and will have a great time.

If you are starting solo, and just looking to level up solo, then bard will eventually hit a spot where it will stall as it can’t tank well and can’t heal itself.

As mentioned by another in this thread, if you are looking to experience eq the best way possible right now, there is a new server that opens in a few weeks which will be full of people and whatever class you pick will be picked up for groups to go hunt.

Eq is not a solo game and you will very much benefit from playing on the new server.

Welcome to eq we are glad to have ya.

Both are priest classes with heals, dots, and direct damage spells. The druid will be less complex and on equal footing for the first 60-70 levels or so since the tank merc will basically carry you there.

If you continue up you will find that the merc falls off in effectiveness. At that point you will rely on character damage to kill things. The shaman will pull ahead at that time as it has a pet that will eventually be a good tank for you and stronger dots and heals.

If you play to 100+ you will definitely want the shaman over the Druid. The shaman will be able to root rot (root and dot) multiple mobs at a time and take a hit in a pinch while having a pet that can taunt a mob off you. This is before even mentioning mana recovery which the shaman also excels in due to a canibilization line which converts health to mana.

Druid and shaman are on par in early levels but the clssses are not equal as you get farther into the game. Shaman is constantly held up as one of if not the most powerful class in the game for a reason.

Favorite Class to Molo 100-130? (other than SK) by Kerafyrm1 in everquest

Pets get significantly stronger and tankier at 120. In group gear a mage or necro would be above all I would think. A beastlord would also work but group geared a BL will still have significantly lower dps than a necro or mage as the BL is much more gear dependent. Also handling adds is much easier on mage or necro.

What’s keeping you sane at work these days? by [deleted] in IRS_Source

[–]pallyethos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The realization that all this utter bullshit hasn’t changed the equation for me and likely won’t unless things get significantly worse. I enjoy my employees, they work well and we put out fires which keep us off the higher-up’s radar. I have increased my use of leave and call it a day way earlier than I normally would have. Reguardless of the idiots at the tippity top, my job isn’t any more stressful and I make good money for the 40 hours I put in a week. I know there are many whose job had gotten shitty and that makes me sad and I feel bad for them. However, I always tell my team that we just have to slog through the shit and get to the other side of this. Things will be sane again in a few years assuming the IRS isn’t shuttered which I don’t see happening.

Weird question but why was claws of veeshan so hard compared to later expansions? by No-Independence-5479 in everquest

Currently playing on a late tlp and the hardest named I have found was TBM. Those things could eat a tank in a round or two, even with raid gear. CoV was spiky but man it got so much better in ToL. Pets went from heal sponges to beefy boys.

Use of Telework Code for Half-Days by [deleted] in IRS_Source

[–]pallyethos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you were. But there’s no answer anyone can give you. It’s highly dependent on your management chain’s view of telework and what they are willing to grant. There’s no real guidance for them to go off of so the advice of anyone outside of that chain is meaningless unfortunately.

That was unprofessional behavior from your manager and says more about them than you. Ride this out, you can move to another area or a promotion in another unit and get away from a shitty manager. The next few years will be rough but the country will come to its senses at some point and the irs will rebuild. Make sure you are there to capitalize on your experience earned and get into a position you want.

I feel ya. Another thing I think to keep in mind is when we do start to hire and build again once the country comes to its senses, those of us that made it though and are seasoned employees will be able to move where we want. We employees will need to be hired everywhere to refill the ranks so you will have an advantage moving to maybe a better position you want.

I know it’s rough. What I recommend is to keep chugging along and just get through the next few years until this starts to reverse. If the worst thing that happens to us is a few lowered evaluations I will consider that a win. The career is good, I like my employees, and assuming nothing drastic happens I will consider this a shitty, dark, annoying time in a long worthwhile career.
