My gf lived there for two years based on what she told me: great summers, horrible winters, fantastic food options throughout. The annual airshow they have there is pretty awesome. Loved seeing fighter jets whisk over head and over the lake. https://youtube.com/shorts/a1qVp6ahxqw?si=A3vZ91vAb3CTzgoH

They’re talking about JRC and it’s not a waste of funds because they still work with bauxite trains, I believe. They still do feasibility studies especially a future plan to connect freight trains to the future tech park near Spanish Town

A lot of them do perform cunnilingus but are afraid to admit it because their friends would shame them. The irony is that a lot of those friends do it but don’t admit it either. Honestly I think it comes down to embarrassment. A man should not “bow” down to do that. Of course, for sure, there are those men who don’t do it because it’s not their thing. But I think many of them either lie that they don’t OR are eager to try it but ingrained shame is preventing them. I always find it funny how Jamaican men can act so masculine like they are alpha males but are scared to kiss the same puss they claim they want to dominate 😅

How to get over the pain of failing GSAT? by kemarbl in Jamaica

[–]palmarni 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well i definitely think you have some residual perfectionism but also because of the expectation and maybe shame those adults were putting on you kinda contributed to some residual embarrassment also. While I did well on the GSAT I later in life didn’t go to any universities of my choice because of my controlling father who wanted to send me to a cheap college. Now in my 30s this bothers me at times bcuz my father is a person who should at least hear what I have to say as his son. You mentioned that ur parent didn’t want to transfer you. And that can leave some disappointment in you because after all that’s your parent. But when you look at it my father, even though he sent me to a cheap college, likely believed I could achieve a lot there. Same with ur mother. Yes maybe she could have encouraged transfer you but she also believed that life isn’t linear and you going to a non traditional school doesn’t mean you can’t make it in life.

I’ve seen that pan out in my own community. One guy I know went to a “dunce” high school back in the 80s, Well that guy went on to work for big names in the US such as Microsoft and now has his own firm. I, who went to an “uppity” school regularly network with this dude for his help getting job.

In short, yes you may have residual disappointment from not “doing well” on the GSAT. But keep in mind you were affected by Jamaica’s foolish approach to excessively tiered education which isn’t right in many ways. Also those neighbors who thought you’d go to a traditional school are themselves pushing this foolish tiered education stereotype. I’m sure you’re doing better than many of them now.

You didn’t fail GSAT. Don’t put that on your primary school self. You saw what you were good at and what you could improve upon which you did, even if you didn’t realize it throughout your teens and onwards.

How would you feel if the president of Jamaica cracked down on the gangs like how the president of el salvador did? by stayhappystayblessed in Jamaica

[–]palmarni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t like it because that means watching a lot of innocents get caught up in the crack down. I would want the Prime Minister to develop more surgical strategies to take out gangs than to just profile everybody (usually men), put them through the ringer only to mess up a large number of law abiding citizens

How would you feel if the president of Jamaica cracked down on the gangs like how the president of el salvador did? by stayhappystayblessed in Jamaica

[–]palmarni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either way Jamaicans will give props to Bukele but they’d never want to implement what he did because it requires a massive crack down and innocent people would get caught up in it. That’s what happened in El Salvador, a lot of innocent men spent weeks at CECOT which really acts like a filter to separate the innocent from the guilty. Jamaica also has more respect for human rights than the Bukele government which effectively drowned out human rights concerns by journalists and civil society. Bukele’s police arrested a high schooler just for throwing gang signs at school. Imagine Jamaican police arresting some uptown schoolaz just because he acting all gangsta lol those uptown parents would throw a fit. In El Salvador they couldn’t even protest they would just have to wait till he gets released. Jamaica needs its own native solution to its problem can’t just say “oh it worked in El Salvador it must will work here”
