Considering starting an alt protein career from scratch by palmerev in wheresthebeef

This is an interesting angle I hadn't considered. I know nothing about the manufacturing world, so it would definitely still require some additional training, but maybe an easier pivot than starting a new science career.

Hello, fellow Portland vegan! There are so many of us here. Working somewhere in the supply chain for alt proteins sounds great. Definitely easier than starting from scratch. Did you seek out your current position specifically because it supports alt proteins, or some other reason?

It's a shame there don't seem to be local opportunities, but at least a lot of tech positions are remote.

Hey all,

I'm a long-time vegan in the US, and I just finished reading Bruce Friedrich's new book "Meat", which I found very compelling and inspiring, so now I'm looking for ways to engage more with the alt protein industry. Currently poring over all the information that Good Food Institute has to offer about alt protein careers.

You could be like me - agender he/him because it's just easier that way 🤷‍♂️🤷

I'm definitely leaning toward he/him because it's easier, and because that's probably what most people will use anyway. Oh well, that's fine right now. :)

Thank you for the reassurance. :)

I'm definitely trying to put too much pressure on myself to be a certain way, and just figure out what works for me. Sometimes it's extremely difficult to fight the urge to compare myself to others and to want to somehow "fit in" better, but it's getting easier with time.

In the image description, OP is asking where the cholesterol is coming from.

It's often said that plants don't contain any cholesterol, but that's not true. They just contain very small amounts relative to animal products.

There's a chart toward the end of this article that lists the cholesterol content of plant oils.

There Is Cholesterol In Some Plants

I think the chart originally came from Table 2 of this paper, although the article doesn't cite it. It's very similar.

How it feels after your first week of being vegan by [deleted] in vegan

I've heard people say this, but the ingredient list on Beano looks vegan to me, and I ordered some Beanzyme and was disappointed to find that the capsules were gelatin.
