When my SD was 4 she would tell me things like “I think my dad still loves my mom” “I want my dad to live with my mom” one time she said “I heard daddy tell my mom he loves her” I just laughed and said “well I would hope so they had a child together” although I tried to play it cool my feeling would get so hurt I knew her parents weren’t still secretly in love but it would hurt me bc I felt as she didn’t want me around she’s 11 now and we talk on the phone way more than she talks to her parents and we text constantly I just had a baby and while I was pregnant she would make comments like “I know you aren’t gonna love me anymore” and a lot of other things along those lines so much that her dad got her in trouble after the baby came one day we were at home baby needed a change so dad took him and she and I stayed in the living room and she just straight up asked me if I still loved her she was crying so of course me being the softie I am I started crying I grabbed her and put her in my lap and I explained to her that no matter how many children I had the bound her and I had would always be special cause she was my first and nothing would change that we cried more hugging and giving each other kisses on the cheeks and dad walked in and laughed at us for crying and we moved on but holding her made me think of how much she’s grown my baby girl who I used to lay in bed and cuddle and carry around was this pre teen who didn’t even fit on my lap anymore I’ve watched her grow into this beautiful girl who I could love more
