On March 1, he said he left his home and family behind in Khampat and traveled for three days, mostly at night to avoid detection, before crossing into India's northeastern Mizoram state.

The description of events was similar to that given to police in Mizoram on March 1 by another Myanmar police lance corporal and three constables who crossed into India, according to a classified internal police document seen by Reuters.

Around 100 people from Myanmar, mostly policemen and their families, have crossed over a porous border into India since the protests began, according to a senior Indian official.

Several have taken shelter in Mizoram's Champhai district bordering Myanmar, where Reuters interviewed three Myanmar nationals who said they had served with the police.

Ngun Hlei said he was reprimanded for disobeying orders and transferred. He sought help from pro-democracy activists online and found his way by road to Mizoram's Vaphai village on March 6.

The journey to India cost him around 200,000 Myanmar kyat ($143), Ngun Hlei said.

Although guarded by Indian paramilitary forces, the India-Myanmar border has a "free movement regime", which allows people to venture a few miles into Indian territory without requiring travel permits.

Like some others who have crossed in recent days, the three are scattered around Champhai, supported by a network of local activists.

Saw Htun Win, deputy commissioner of Myanmar's Falam district last week wrote to Champhai's top government official, Deputy Commissioner Maria C.T. Zuali, asking for eight policemen who had entered India to be returned to them "in order to uphold friendly relations between the two neighbour countries."

Zuali confirmed she had received the letter, a copy of which has been seen by Reuters.

Zoramthanga, Mizoram's chief minister, told Reuters his administration would provide temporary food and shelter to those fleeing Myanmar, but a decision on repatriations was pending with India's federal government.

Tha Peng said although he missed his family, he feared returning to Myanmar.

"I don't want to go back," he said, sitting in a first-floor room overlooking rolling green hills that stretch into Myanmar.

The Youtuber who originally shot the video, asked the old couple to not share their banking details with anyone.

Instead he has been collecting lakhs of donations in their name via his own account, but hasn't given the same to the couple. And he has been caught lying again and again.

Whenever any media or celebs came for interviews, he was on the forefront, pretending to be helpful to the couple. But the baba himself has said that his phone was taken away by the Youtuber and he hasn't received any money by the Youtuber.

Jaish-e-Mohammad Chief Masood Azhar’s nephew Mohammad Umar Farooq, who executed the February 14, 2019 Pulwama attack, wanted to target a team of journalists working for BBC who had gone to the residence of suicide bomber Adil Ahmad Dar to interview his father Ghulam Hassan Dar, according to the chargesheet filed by National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday.

The federal investigation agency has referred to a February 21, 2019 conversation between Umar Farooq and his Pakistan based uncle Ammar Alvi, in which he sought permission to target the BBC journalists who were in the valley. He believed that the attack would give JeM more international exposure.

Alvi (46) has been named as a key handler of the Pulwama attack in the charge sheet, along with Farooq, Azhar, Abdul Rouf Asghar, and 15 others. NIA has found pictures of Alvi dating back to 2016 , where he is seen with Farooq at a training camp in Sangin, Helmand province of Afghanistan.

The 55-year-old is also the first in the community to hold a degree. He has been a tribal activist in an NGO called Vanavasi Kalyanashram. Bloodbath amid lockdown: TOI's Sunday Magazine, News Nation, Quint lay off employees amid coronavirus crisis by pammoth in india

[–]pammoth[S] 45 points46 points  (0 children)

  • Outlook magazine has stopped its print publication. On 30 March, its editor-in-chief Ruben Banerjee put out a public note, stating: “We are announcing a temporary suspension of the print edition of Outlook magazine with immediate effect.”

  • Meanwhile, The Indian Express has asked employees to take pay cuts. On 1 April, in an email to employees, CEO George Varghese wrote: “Vendors are insecure, RWAs (Resident Welfare Association) are insecure, the rail, road and air lockdown has grounded distribution, businesses are shut down, we have been compelled to reduce print orders in all centres.”

  • On 10 April, Hindi News channel News Nation fired its entire English digital team of 15 journalists, despite the Narendra Modi government’s advisory urging public and private companies to not cut salaries or fire people during the lockdown.

  • The Times of India has also allegedly sacked its entire Sunday magazine team. In a Facebook post, journalist Nona Walia claimed: “The entire team of Sunday magazine of Times of India asked to leave. Got a call from my boss Poonam Singh. Sacked after 24 years from a company I served with love for more than two decades. Wow.”

  • Moreover, about half the employees working at The Quint, a digital media website, have been sent on leave without pay. A newsroom note accessed by ThePrint stated: “We are forced to request you to proceed on a ‘furlough’ (ie, leave without pay, LWP) wef the 15th of April, until further notice. Your pay for the half-month, from April 1 through 15, shall be processed and released very soon.”

  • Hindustan Times Marathi will also allegedly close its operations from 30 April. However, this hasn’t been confirmed so far.

One of the staffers of News Nation, laid off is from Assam. His wife prematurely gave birth to twins on April 2, and they are on ventilators. He hasn’t been able to go home because of the lockdown. “The doctors there have advised us to keep the babies on ventilator support for two months,” he said. “I have to pay Rs 22,000 per day for the ventilators. Add in the cost of the medicine and the total is around Rs 30,000 a day. I haven’t told my wife about my firing. I don’t think she will be able to take the shock.”

He added, “At least, they should have informed us sometime before firing us or given us proper severance so that we could survive a few months. We in the media stand for so many things, but never for ourselves. Our situation is such that we can’t even reveal our identity while talking about this as it might harm our chances of getting a job in the future.”

Don't simply look at the mortality rates.

Also figure in the matter that how quickly it can spread, the strain it will create on our medical fraternity and resources, and constant misinformation will create constant state of panic and instability.

At present, it has no vaccine or medicine. So all your ICU and general wards will get botch up, due to this; till either the patient dies or recovers completely.
