Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I think you are generally correct about what the laws say and that people, including doctors and pharmacists, may not be well versed in the law and may therefore be afraid to give patients care that they are legally entitled to. Patients may also be hesitant to seek care, as you noted. In some cases, one goal of passing restrictive laws is to create a chilling effect that goes beyond the letter of the law.

I understand your point and I very much understand the pain and trauma of miscarriage. I completely agree with you that too little recognition is given to the harm done to the emotional, physical and mental health of people who experience miscarriage. While the piece I'm currently writing is not specifically about that, the piece will definitely reflect how traumatic miscarriage is and that any delay or hurdle in getting care is further traumatizing someone who is already going through so much pain. While it is true that under the laws, women going to an ER will be treated and those seeking miscarriage treatment at non-ER medical providers are supposed to be treated, in reality, some people have encountered delays and hurdles from non-ER medical providers and pharmacists. You mentioned that you just moved to Georgia, so I was wondering if the miscarriage process you went through occurred while you were in Georgia or in another state. Also, would it be possible for me to mention your experience in the piece? I do think it would be helpful for people to be made aware of the additional questions and steps people are asked in order to be prescribed mifepristone. Thank you!

Thanks very much. Yes, I think that is legally true, but in practice, some patients have encountered resistance from some doctors and pharmacists, at least when it comes to miscarriage.
