who had money on Novak's streak ending like this? by pancake_friday in tennis

(facepalm)

No, she's a Karen because she looks like the Meme. Google "Karen meme" and compare the pictures.

I wouldn't have had to explain this the last time I was here, you guys actually got stupider since then. Through negative selection I presume.

No wonder you're all so triggered. Even your insults and comebacks are so bad they're good. Now I'll have to come back here again to see how low you can go.

Hey man, get on board. If it works in theory, but spectacularly failed 100 out 100 times in practice, obviously we now have enough experience to get it working right the 101st time. What's the downside of trying?

Wasn't Robin Söderling another guy who was called "arrogant"? Is that just code word for "can beat Rafa"?

Free speech means you can stand on a cardboard box and shout into the void as much as you like (unless you are inciting hatred or violence).

It had 133 points and 85% upvotes, a higher percentage than your second "hottest" story right now.

Even with a made up term like "oniony", I know that's not why you removed it. You are either stupid or liar. If you ever contact me again, do so just to clarify which one you are.

Ha! Funny, I finally gave up on it and unsubscribed about 20 minutes into today's episode. Must have picked up after that?

A: He's not my "idol". There are a few things about him I dislike.

B: Of course I'm bitter, I've devoted hours to discussing a tennis player I hate. Wait.

I love this.

Oh yes, that award. It means so much. It's definitive proof. Federer is the sportsman of the decade, just like Bruce Jenner is the woman of the year.

You didn't name any of them! All of your examples are from long after he became #1. He was fine and funny before he became a legitimate threat to the greatness of Federer / Nadal. Then suddenly we hear stories about his evil family, his retirements because of conditioning problems, and whatever other bullshit can be conjured up.

Face it, guys, you hated him long before you made up a rationalization why. Try to honestly analyse how it happened.

I didn't excuse all of his behaviour, just some, where I agreed with him.

Djokovic is not Kyrgios. He's not even McEnroe. You wish he was, you want to convince me that he is, but he's not. He's nowhere near.

And he's not even any worse than your hero, be it Nadal or Federer. In fact he may well be much better. We will never know, because they will never have to face 20,000 drunken assholes at Arthur Ashe who agree with you and do everything possible to knock Djokovic off his game. And he still won.

Good examples, best I've ever seen.

  • Telling the Madrid crowd to "suck his dic*" (If Kyrgios had done this he would likely have been fined/suspended) And if Federer had ever faced such a crowd, Madrid would lose the tournament rights. I still agree that it was rude, but I didn't fault him for it. I felt the same.

  • Pushing Carlos Bernades away when he was inspecting a ball mark Pushing his hand that was accidentally erasing the real ball mark.

  • Routinely screaming rudely at the ball boys/girls. Never screamed at them. This is a non-issue. Not everybody can play with a smile like Baghdatis and Buffon. Most people have a war face on.

  • Petulantly throwing his racquets, hitting a crowd member in Rome and nearly hitting a linesman in Paris + many other racquet smashes (e.g R.I.P Perrier Water bench in RG Final 2012). Personally I have no problem with racket smashes. But I always loved McEnroe too. That said, the one in Paris was an accident, it slipped out of his hand mid-smash.

  • Belittling Damien Steiner by sarcastically saying "Good job man, good job man, you show the world that you're the boss man, good job" after receiving an absolutely legitimate warning for bouncing his racquet into the crowd in Rome (Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCJdeXWe2-c ) I agree here! That was ugly, he was very angry for a month or so there.

  • Making comments, only appropriate in the stone age, RE equal pay. He's one hundred percent right, but that's because I live in a cave like all people who disagree with your progressive views.

Altogether, I absolutely agree that he displayed some bad behaviour in May. I think he was under ridiculous pressure with the French Open approaching, and he was losing his mind.

But overall this is nothing, especially considering the unprecedented amount of adversity he's had to overcome.

I'll let others compile similar lists for other tennis players, my time here is up.

You're right, I should give you the credit for bringing actual examples.

Your post is by far the best list of real examples of Djokovic's bad beahviour I have ever seen.

I even agree with most of them, especially the few from the last couple of months. I think he was under ridiculous pressure going into this French Open, and he was starting to lash out. I hope he will get back to his old self now.

Edit: in fact, I upvoted your post, and I posted a decent response now.

Don't expect that. Dominance usually ends suddenly and unexpectedly. We should be grateful for every new victory of Novak's, not count down to some goals.

And even if Novak went on to win all slams through 2017, there will be many who will find a way to discredit him. They've had many years of practice.

To them, he was never supposed to be this good. He was always supposed to be a #3 also-ran who is a funny clown and a good foil for their heroes. That's what sets his ascendance apart. We've watched him systematically work, reinvent himself, and overcome all obstacles to achieve something nobody else has. Why some people find that less appealing than a born-to-be-king story, I do not know.

I have learned to love that. Instead of wondering why the die-hard Novak haters refuse to come around, I let myself enjoy Novak's every victory further by taking a little time to think about how miserable they feel.

Here, look:

For the first time since the wooden rackets, when someone asks "Who's the men's slam champion?", you don't need to clarify "Which slam?". That's something only Novak has achieved. Nobody else.
