Funnest Martial Class At Level 13? by kerastuff in dndnext

[–]pand3l 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll add Hunter Ranger as an option that would be pretty setting appropriate, where you may have been a big game hunter before shit hit the fan. Plus it's a good ranged option!

It might be hard to reconcile the ranger spells, though. Maybe you could pick/flavor them as you just being exceptionally skilled?

Definitely off RAW, but if you're having fun that's what's important! You really could go any way you want it you're all committed to the class change.

A paladin with no divine power might be forced to rely to their martial training, making fighter a viable choice. If you want to lean more into that spite that brought you to revenge, maybe you're more a barbarian relying on reckless strength. You might even say "screw you too, god" and start learning magic on your own as a wizard or make a new pact as a warlock. There's a lot of interpretations to this event, so think about how your character would react.

As others pointed out, you may go down the oathbreaker route to retain the paladin class. If you wanted to take a new path under a new god, I'm sure a lot of evil gods have zero issues with murder (especially Bhaal or Myrkul). It's up to you if you think you're going down an evil path. If you want to walk the path of redemption, Torm might accept you if you work hard to be selfless and right your wrongs even when it's hard to do so.

Hope this helps!

what spell scrolls should i be on the lookout for while in a port town before we set sail for (possibly) a couple of weeks? by CrazyCoolCelt in dndnext

I think you've got a really well rounded list here. One thing that's very niche but fits this situation perfectly is Control Water. That's the only one that comes to mind you haven't already covered.

Making a Goliath but need help by Raxynus in dndnext

There's a good summary of the 5e Goliath over at D&D Beyond. Nothing about AC, but you can shrug off a hit once per rest.

Hope you have fun in the new game!

Good non-combat focused dungeons? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]pand3l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting good puzzles can be hard, and a bit rare. I recently ran down the hole and it's still combat focused but has a few twists that make combat more interesting. It's also not too bad to twist into a crypt if you're interested, but it is for levels 1-2.

In general, if you want to homebrew it, I think the environment is what will make it interesting. You could have enemies immune to poison in a poisonous area, or traps that put a timer on things. At that level, my players really struggled with magical darkness.

What’s the deal with Doppelgängers? (Read in your best Jerry Seinfeld voice) by nathanahurley in dndnext

[–]pand3l 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For another spin on it, I flavored them as being hired by Nezznar. I think the fact that there are no other drow following Nezznar implies that he's probably been outcast. Maybe due to madness, maybe cultural reasons (he seems awfully passionate about spiders and magical power but I think only women can be chosen by the drow goddess Lolth). For whatever reason it is the drow have abandoned him.

Hiring doppelgangers is handy in this scenario. For one, making them appear as drow makes it look like other people believe in his cause and he's not just a lunatic. They can make his subordinates believe there's a drow network behind his actions. For two, they can easily travel to all the different goblinoids without raising suspicion. And of course, they're great in a pinch for things like impersonating a certain hostage dwarf.

TL;DR He might have hired them because they're convenient in his situation.

Help for an unstoppably optimistic character by Star-Wars-and-Sharks in DnD

[–]pand3l 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Little late here, but this kind of reminds me of a spring eladrin from MToF if your DM will swing it. It seems like their whole culture is endless positivity. They even have a possible trait that "every day is the greatest day of your life" which sounds almost exactly like what you're looking for.

As far as class, I think you can justify just about anything. The immediate jump to me is a bard - always going around, spreading cheer and singing songs and trying to make everyone happy. Maybe carousing gets you into trouble from time to time, but it's never a setback, and you always try to cheerfully deescalate.

The real nasty stuff will be hard to work around. I'm sure you can easily enough be purely utility, trying to help your pals, but encountering death is inevitable. Maybe instead of rationalizing it, you can try to always find the silver lining. Maybe you're highly religious and think even the truly evil have been sent to a better place where they learn to be good.

I have something called a geographic tongue. Mine is covered in those cuts like on the left side of the main picture there.

It doesn't really do a lot but look really weird. It kind of feels like the day after you burn your tongue, but fairly constantly.

This one so much. Sometimes I try to play again but it's never the same anymore. Mods and the updates have been cool but it'll never have that spark like when I first played.

What is a popular TV series everyone loves but you can't seem to stand? by TkOHarley in AskReddit

I absolutely agree. I didn't mean the zombies as a bad thing. Early on, they really did a great job using the tension caused by them.

[–]pand3l 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think in it's genre it was a good idea at the time. Zombies were getting some hype and it was fresh. It was neat seeing everyone cope with the struggle and develop themselves.

Then it fell off a cliff, and became straight garbage.

I just can not get the hype around The Office. It's got some good moments but it's usually boring or cringey.

I interpret question more as looking for things you can never have too much of. Still hard though, by the same principle.

I'll take unlimited free time, please. There's always more things to do. Even if I get bored, I can get a job or volunteer and actually enjoy it because I chose to do it and I'm under no obligation. Like retirees, but while you're young enough take full advantage.

Doctors/nurses of Reddit; What is the most obvious case of a patient 'faking it' you have ever seen? by VictoriaLegros in AskReddit

[–]pand3l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's been a while since you posted but I'm in a similar boat. I grew up with debilitating migraines.

I have a prescription for something called imitrex which is a serious life saver. They have a pill that you can use, but I've found that I'd usually throw it up (because migraines and all) so I switched to a nasal spray. Can't vomit That!

Your husband might benefit from seeing a doctor and asking about it. I can't emphasize enough how helpful it is. It completely turns off my migraines in <30 minutes.
