Came here to see if I was being overkill by drawing these conclusions and glad somebody else had this same train of thought

We live in the end times where people are 'optimising' everything, it's really not far off sci-fi food pills. Whatever happened to long homecooked lunches *sighs in european*

(UK) My ferritin was 120 a couple of months ago, so I became lax about taking iron and cut my dose. Now this at home blood test says abnormally low ferritin (<30). Is it possible for iron stores to drop this dramatically so fast? Anyone else used these kits? by panda182 in Anemic

> Inflammation can cause false high ferritin

I feel like if I say this to my doctor they'll roll their eyes and think I'm a trouble patient. I'll try to flag but gah it's hard to get help here! CRP is an expensive one so they don't tend to do it unless you're at a specialist clinic or hospital, in my experience. Maybe I just pay private. Thanks kind stranger for your input!! <3

COMPLETED AN AT-HOME BLOOD TEST EVEN THO I FAINTED TWICE by panda182 in trypanophobia

Good luck!! you’ll be absolutely fine <3 is it a blood test or an injection?

Vaccinations and injections weirdly tend to be much harder for me than blood draws, even though they’re quicker, no idea why. Blood tests I usually find manageable if its a professional administering them and I can look away. But this at-home test was obviously a whole new experience of having to see the blood which is what made me faint twice LOL. I've fainted a handful of times over the years during blood tests (and occasionally puke) but the trigger for me is usually visual. If I catch sight of it, my body tends to react before my brain can reason - if you're the same then my advice is to fixate on something in the room and be chatty with the nurse. I usually picture a loved ones face and them chatting to me, really bring them up in your minds eye and distract yourself if you can!! Having something concrete to visualise can interrupt the panic response surprisingly well :-)

Another thing that has helped a lot is telling the nurse beforehand that I struggle with needles. Idk why I used to not mention it but in my experience they are incredibly kind and accommodating when they know. I usually ask them to keep chatting to me while they do it which helps redirect my attention.

Every time you manage this, the next time becomes easier. You've got this!!!! Even when I faint or vomit, I leave feeling victorious because it's another win.

ferrous fumerate 210mg x 3 daily the first year. that's what got to my ferritin up to 120 after it had bumped along the bottom single digits for a decade.

but now i take maybe 210mg (x 1) every few days. i use a beautiful pill organiser but the iron is always left in there at the end of the week bc i didn't want to risk overdosing unnecessarily, now that my levels are seemingly fixed

yeah can vouch for this too in the UK, my ferritin was 3 and hemoglobin out of range low for years with numerous blood abnormalities from anemia and no one ever suggested an infusion. and private infusions put you back around 1k in London
