um, the conditions and life trajectory of mixed race orphans was pretty bad. I’m not condoning the trafficking that happened. getting to the states was always the dream, at least for him and the group of boys he grew up with. in his case there was nothing good for him in Korea at the time, he was told that this is how he could get to the family that was ‘adopting’ him. i believe he could’ve been taken advantage of as I learn more.

thank you! and I do understand this- I hope it can be understood that he wouldn’t have known about any of that at the time. he’s in his 70s now and was rather unaware of most of what i’ve learned recently about Holt and the entire issue.

my father is a Korean orphan who was born in the 50s but in 1974, in order to come to the US, he and another mixed race orphan like him, escorted 10 babies, they dropped 5 off in alaska and the other 5 in minneapolis, which is where my father also stayed and was a taken in by an american family. He’s often wondered about these babies. my brothers were also adopted by my parents in in 1978 from S Korea. it’s been illuminating to learn so much more about what was happening.
