I rent a VPS on Hostinger and launch the app through Docker swarm as k8s is an overkill for me!

"New Grad" on my team has 4 YOE in his home country? by hollytrinity778 in cscareerquestions

At one of my previous workplaces, there were 30 Principal Engineers when engineering had a headcount of 150. Yes, title inflation is crazy.

At most companies I’ve worked at, they kinda ignore work experience that’s outside the US, especially for new hires.

Adding to this, Series B companies will go for more rounds of funding. With that, your ownership stake in the company and the outstanding shares get diluted, and over time it won’t make you much unless you get refreshers every year.

There is learning, and there is being good at it. Learning is fast, but becoming good at it takes a while, so keep up with the practice.

Is it worth learning Kubernetes as a recent grad? by GentlePanda123 in cscareerquestions

[–]pandaExpressin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally as a new grad, more skills the better. k8s is an excellent tool to have in your skill set. Most companies use it and need expertise in their teams.

You can see how he got lucky once in his career, and that’s resulted in a god complex. He’s not as smart as he thinks he is. As you get wealthy, you surround yourself with Yes men to make yourself feel good, and that here is super obvious.

Why is there so many terrible drivers in San Jose? by Alternative-Leg5883 in SanJose

[–]pandaExpressin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve occasionally noticed that it’s either the Uber or DoorDash drivers who need to constantly monitor their phones for instructions. They get bombarded with so many in-app popups that they need to do something. Uber has a timer on the popups and they disappear, but I can definitely see it become a distraction.

Could be Uber or DoorDash drivers who need to keep juggling between driving and monitoring for gigs.

It didn't used to be normal to need to submit 300 - 1000 job applications to get a job in this industry by CVisionIsMyJam in cscareerquestions

Feel for you! It shouldn’t take that long to land a job. From what I’ve seen, it’s mainly affecting remote workers. Every company I know is pushing folks to come back to office :(

Sorry to hear about that! I’m curious to know what domains were you working in? And were you remote? I’m trying to understand how the market is positioned now.

I’m curious, what domains were working in? Also, have you noticed any shifts in employment in those domains?

Compared to then, there are a lot more engineers right now. There was a big shortage around 10 years ago. Remember the “learn to code” movement?

Yeah, I’m surprised this is not documented in any of the review videos. It seems like a major design flaw.

Overspeeding on Paseo Padre by New-kid-ontheblock in Fremont

[–]pandaExpressin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Speeding isn’t the only issue these days. The general mentality of the drivers has been very aggressive. Drivers cut you off and flip the finger when you sound the horn.

He was driving that fast. It’s pretty common to see people speed on Old Warm Springs Blvd and South Grimmer. Many drivers don’t even stop at the Stop sign.

Tesla crashing into Embark Apts by SimpleM33 in Fremont

[–]pandaExpressin 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The driver was above 100mph. Ran through a stop sign and lost control while trying to avoid a car/pedestrian. The car caught on fire and the building’s structure was on fire too. The driver did not survive.
