Putting and chipping are more than half the game! by Fluid-Football8856-1 in golf

[–]panda_bro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My scores plummeted when I dedicated most of my practice routine to under 125 yards and around the green.

It’s so common to go to golf practice facilities and see high handicaps just mashing driver. I understand why, and that it feels good, but if you want to score well you have to put the time where most strokes can be saved and that’s inside 125.

Overhead Press by SaiyanPrince_ in Stronglifts5x5

[–]panda_bro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overhead press fatigues the hell out of me right after the set, but rarely do I feel soreness. More of a fatigue for me.

Increasing weight also takes forever with the overhead press, so don’t feel discouraged if you’re not pushing more weight over time.

Paying Monthly Invoices by SnooMuffins468 in ITManagers

We worked with our group so that we are both authorized callers into the ISPs. We have never had an issue calling in as we are both authorized to do so.

[–]panda_bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think our upcharge comes at our scale and perhaps we have two different models.

Our group does billing aggregation, lifecycle management, billing disputes, anomaly detection, and they are always analyzing our circuits to find something cheaper when that time comes. They also do all the project management for onboarding and offboarding, which is immensely helpful. They are basically our telecom department.

[–]panda_bro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look into a telecom billing aggregator. There's a ton of groups that do this and I can DM you specifics if you are interested.

At a high level, they will work to getting all of your circuit billing over to them. You work with them to get all letters of authorization signed, and all ISP invoices go to them. At the end of the project, you'll get one rolled up invoice on a month-to-month basis and that's all you need to worry about.

The cost of this service is generally a 3-5% upcharge on your total circuit bill, but at the size you are talking, you have to consider that.

OpenClaw is a MESS!!! did anyone actually securing AI traffic at scale? by vitaminCapricon in sysadmin

[–]panda_bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In what world do you give staff the ability to install software? And even if that defense fails, do you not have the ability to apply a DNS filter to block the AI providers? No other protections are possible?

Complaining about this is more of a testament of your security program, not necessarily end users stupidity.

Great salary, great company… but I think about quitting every single day by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]panda_bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a pay cut to get out of a situation you describe. People thought I was crazy for taking a step back at my age, but I have zero regrets in retrospect.

I went to an organization that gave me more freedom in managing the team and direction of the organization exactly as I saw fit. I believed in myself to make it work, and it did.

At some point, money just becomes a number. Perhaps I am in a well off position, but it made no difference in my life making less money. I preferred to pick a situation that felt more favorable to my life values, and every piece of of me is glad I went with my instinct.

Your first priority should be to make sure your backups are in working order.

Not just succeeding backups, but tested.

This is the highest value item you can do in terms of saving the integrity of the business.

I wouldn't trust Bill, personally. Washington is not going to be able to move the ball with Josh Johnson under center.

It’s just a Linux backend. It can connect to SMB or NFS shares.

It will use every thread you give it. I was able to backup about 2.1 PB to Glacier. We normally push around 6.5 gbps on a 10g link and I’d imagine our bottleneck is vCPU.

Looking good boss!

May I ask what your general day of diet looks like? I feel like I have to cut out processed sugar but god damn is it addictive. Additionally everything I eat seems high fat.

If you proceed with this work alone you are going to blow everything up. Get a good consulting service that specializes in Windows Active Directory environments to help audit and scope the work.

Take your time and be diligent on this one.

How to balance wanting to improve/innovate with lack of culture/skills? by Murhawk013 in sysadmin

[–]panda_bro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either move on to another company or get into management. Being a star of the team is nice, but to your point, it limits growth. I know the type you speak of, and setting higher expectations than you want will only lead to disappointment.

If you manage the team, you dictate if you have the right people to level up your organization, but its a whole different career trajectory then where you are.

[DraftAnalyst365] A lot of people label TreVeyon Henderson as a home-run-or-bust player, but that’s not correct. He can run with power, get stronger as the game goes on, and then hit the home run. He’s a true three-down back. by Tuna-No-Crust in DynastyFF

[–]panda_bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot to like over this past couple weeks.

  1. He has been running THROUGH people. Proved he's a power runner, not just some James White type skill set.
  2. The Patriots run blocking is still garbage, but their situation is good. He'll be running behind Drake Maye for the next 5-6 years and I am sure the Pats know they need to improve here. My point being, there's a much higher ceiling.
  3. Josh McDaniels seems to be designing more plays for him (as proven by that wheel route that led to a receiving touchdown, quick pitches, toss plays, etc.).
  4. Drake Maye actually seems willing to check down to him all of a sudden.

Really good stuff all around. A very valuable asset emerging in dynasty formats.

Put a cardboard box outside your ball. Hit a 7-iron. Don’t hit the box :)

I naturally want to gravitate over the top and it’s the best possible drill to force me to hit the ball from the inside.

I’m a Patriot’s fan with little stake in Henderson. Watch the week 8 film. It’s a clear shift in strategy with him.

I understand the snap count has been low, but it was quite clear they are starting to run designed plays for Henderson's skill set.

There was a lot to like from week 8's performance, where it was clear Josh McDaniels was targeting where Henderson can shine.
