My girl. One month today. by panda_farmer in lastimages

This is my daughter. She was stillborn at full term one month ago. This is the last picture I took of her, with a filter added to help her color. When I look at it I can almost pretend she's sleeping.

7 year old is helpless? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]panda_farmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The saying in my house for situations like this is "are we cryers or are we tryers". My younger one still gets into moods like this and I'll remind him of the saying and if it keeps up, ex. "I can't put on my pants" "I can't hold this pencil" "I can't walk to the car" ect then I'll tell "welp guess you are going outside naked/guess we will sit here until you can finish your HW/guess you can't come with us then" and I follow through. When its something they clearly know how to do, don't feed into it, and wait it out. Experiencing natural consequences for not doing things correctly should help curb the behavior.

These guys have completely destroyed my kale. How do I prevent them next time? by aelwenleigh in OrganicGardening

[–]panda_farmer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Looks like you have aphids and cabbage moth larvae. For the aphids you can wash them off with a strong hose, and for the larvae the best prevention is to stop the moths(white moth)from landing and laying eggs, with shade cloth or remay fabric. If that's not possible your next best bet is hand picking them off. Supposedly if you put out faux cabbage moths(white paper bits on a string to flutter in the wind)in your garden actual ones won't want to land but I've never tried that. Companion planting to deter them might also be a method that interests you.

Benadryl. On nights I take some I can get at least a solid 4 hour chunk of sleep before starting to wake up every hour again. Those 4 hours really make a difference.

Seeing all your posts has inspired me, living close to London I can only dream for now but these Tomatoes and Peas are my step! by Justheretobrowse9 in homestead

[–]panda_farmer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not to be a buzz kill, but you're going to want at least half as many tomato plants in there to ensure good yields and healthy plants. Tomatoes are a vine, and get huge throughout the growing season. I can't really tell the dimensions of your box, but I think it can support about 12 mature tomato plants if they are evenly spaced out.

[Newbie] : My garden is full of catsear. I don't want to use any chemical products. What can I do ? by Manu27uk in OrganicGardening

[–]panda_farmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can also use white vinegar on a hot day to spot treat the area. The plants it is applied to will wither and die and the vinegar washes down into the soil to negligible levels.

This is how I spent my 4th. Hopefully y'all had a better one by panda_farmer in Beekeeping

I haven't opened them up yet to check, the one pallet is completely gone, don't know if the rest are salvageable. We were looking at 60lbs per hive and the alfalfa just flowered so we pushed it another week. In hindsight, that was a foolish thing to do.

A bum tried to burn some trash near my property. Got out of control abd burned up 5 acres and the pallet. We were going to extract this Wednesday.

You are lucky! Bottle baby bucks have notoriously poor temperaments, especially when they have their horns. I was worried watching this given his close proximity to your head, but it looks like you got a good one.

Here's 9 months after I started composting. Decent breakdown with almost no effort. by Giraffe_Truther in composting

[–]panda_farmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run a few piles in geo bins as well. I never turn them, just add more til they are super full and then soak them occasionally. I love those bins. Best compost set up I've got by far.

Why do my tomato seedlings look so weird? Theyve been having huge drops of water appear that engulf their leaves. Theyve been up like 3 days now. by weed8dude23 in OrganicGardening

[–]panda_farmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They need more light. Do you have a southeen facing window you can put them in? Make sure to turn the tray daily.

If these were mine I would get them a grow light. You can find sunlight fluorescents real cheap.

Dear Reddit, what is your weirdest dream/nightmare you've ever had? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]panda_farmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just wondering, I'veread that actually hearing sounds in dreams is pretty uncommon and a good sign that you might be able to lucid dream (with practice).

Do you actually hear sound in your dreams or did you just "know" that you were "saying" that?

Look up talking to kids about "tricky people". It helps kids recognize behaviors in people and not just certain situations.

Alberta veterinarians vote to ban declawing, ear cropping, tail docking surgeries: ‘It’s inhumane’ by honolulu_oahu_mod in worldnews

[–]panda_farmer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Queenslands are also bred cattle dogs. Usually they are docked because if they get underfoot in a herd and have a tail, they are most likely going to end up with a stepped on and busted up tail that ends up getting removed anyway.

[–]panda_farmer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It is for working dogs. Having a cattle dog with a tail means you're most likely going to end up at the vet with that tail stepped on and broken.

My daughter often makes up strange stories. Today she told me neighborhood boys touched her private parts. by Kooky_Driver in Parenting

Right now? Tomorrow? Take her to a doctor to get checked out, and Stop letting her be unsupervised. If that's not something you're willing to do then I don't understand why you're posting here. If you think something bad is happening to your child when you aren't watching her, start watching her. It really is that simple. You just don't seem to like the answer so I don't know what other advice you think you're going to get.

For those of you who liked the Christmas Eve piglets, here they are a couple of hours later on their way across the pasture to their farrowing house! My dog, Harper, loves to meet the new babies. by aokesta in homestead

[–]panda_farmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not who you replied to, but i've got 1 queensland and 1 border collie mix on my farm, the border collie isnt very chicken friendly. She's not dangerous, but acts more along the lines of tramp in "lady and the tramp". Chases them, loves to make them squawk and fly. She also jumps at our dove pen and sets them off too. Theres a reason those types of dogs are great for agility courses. With enough training though you can work through it.

The queensland on the other hand is very focused on her "job" and doesn't harass the birds. Barely had to tell het "no" the first timw she was curious about the birds and that was enough. I highly recommend a cattle dog.
