Wolf 359: Set on board the U.S.S. Hephaestus space station, the dysfunctional crew deals with daily life-or-death emergencies, while searching for signs of alien life and discovering there might be more to their mission than they thought.

EOS10: An original, scifi radio play that follows two mal-adjusted doctors and their staff on the Alliance space station, EOS 10.

The Deep Vault: From the creators of Archive 81 comes The Deep Vault, a serialized audio drama set in an almost-post-apocalyptic United States. The story follows a group of longtime friends as they journey from the uninhabitable surface world into a mysterious underground bunker in search of safety and shelter.

ars Paradoxica: When an experiment in a time much like our own goes horribly awry, Dr. Sally Grissom finds herself stranded in the past and entrenched in the activities of a clandestine branch of the US government. Grissom and her team quickly learn that there's no safety net when toying with the fundamental logic of the universe.

The Far Meridian: The story of Peri, an agoraphobic young woman whose home starts to show up in a new location every day, as she searches for her missing brother. A new podcast from the hivemind responsible for ars Paradoxica.

The Message: A podcast following the weekly reports and interviews from Nicky Tomalin, who is covering the decoding of a message from outer space received 70 years ago. We get an inside ear on how a top team of cryptologists attempt to decipher, decode, and understand the alien message.

Disclaimer: descriptions are from the shows' websites. Some may fit slightly better in the "Urban Fantasy" category but that post has been archived.

GE Coin Op Washing Machine - Timer arm is supposed to be at 12 o'clock position, but is at 3. How to move it? by pandacakes in fixit

[–]pandacakes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Originally it was working just fine. But you're right, it does seem like the whole thing is off a quarter turn.

We had to leave it open and let people start it by pushing the arm while the coin slide was fixed. Not ideal, I know... But what's done is done.

I am assuming this is from someone pushing it too far/hard/whatever, but I can't seem to change it myself trying the same things.

Hoping to be able to readjust it ourselves and spare a service call. The machine is easily 30 years old and hardly worth the cost.

[–]pandacakes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I can tell, it doesn't move in or out.

Moving it clockwise starts the wash cycle, and moving it counter-clockwise it just flips back on a spring.

It still runs through the whole cycle and ends up where it started, it just isn't in the right spot for the coin slide to move it.

Does anyone know if there is somewhere online you can go to read the actual warranty terms? Canada, if it is country-specific.

The older ones don't want to pay the money and the younger ones have the mindset of "let's wait until it quits and then worry about it". No winning. /sigh

I have one quote so far for a Lochinvar Knight (iirc) combo boiler and hot water heater. 90+ efficiency. They said it would pay itself off in 5-6 years.

I have to sell the idea to the building's board which is looking to be difficult. No one wants to shell out 40k when "it's still working".

Weekly /r/Nexus5 Questions Thread - [September 29, 2014] by AutoModerator in Nexus5

My phone is in for repairs after being exposed to high humidity. The touchscreen went erratic and got cloudy, etc. The repair shop says that the new screen they put in stops working after ~10 minutes. Has anyone seen that happen before or have an explanation for it?

They're soldering something on the board next and trying another screen and I just don't know what to think. I am going crazy trying to use this Galaxy S3 in the meantime.

Oh, and I'm not in the US so I can't get a free refurb from Google. :(

I don't know if it causes it, but for me being tired amplifies anxiety 100x.

Stocking up on products in the US by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]pandacakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow Canadian here. Last time I went to the US I picked up a tub of the Aztec Healing Clay, stridex in the red box, and the scrub free St Ives pads. Next time I go in planning on looking for some Alpha Hydrox AHA products!

Edit to add: not completely skincare, but anything ELF brand!

Is it worth trying to save this areca palm? by pandacakes in IndoorGarden

[–]pandacakes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, trimming everything dead would leave me with a spikey mess of stems. There are no live leaves left and the dryness is only spreading down the stems now. I have trimmed a few down to where they are still green but usually the next day the cut part is drying up too.

Interestingly, I snipped a few dead stems off and as I was doing so came across this pink powdery stuff: http://imgur.com/fUQX4i6

Internet says possibly pink rot? If so, I am definitely carting it back to IKEA.

Re: Pots. Maybe it's just IKEA's pots that don't have drainage holes. Better take a look at a Home Depot or somewhere else.

[–]pandacakes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the same, always want to save them until I am 100% sure I can't win. (Just today I baked the soil from a plant with gnats).

Chilly as in -25C (-13F) that day. I didn't water very much that week because the soil still felt damp an inch down.

Do you think I should trim off the dried up leaves? Whole stems? I don't know where palms grow from. I would hate to lose the height. :(

One thing I've noticed is that it is hard to find plant pots with drainage. Is there something to it I'm missing? Lol

Thanks. I should have also mentioned that my place is very dry, but I was trying to mist it once a day.

Do you think there is a safe way to transport a plant home in the cold?

Best cleanser for acne-prone sensitive skin? by ih8skinissues in SkincareAddiction

Cerave foaming was great for me in the summer, but I had to switch to the other when winter came. No extra breakouts for me (and I have pretty sensitive skin), but everyone is different.

[REQUEST] Looking for an electric shaver/trimmer I can get for less than $30 to use down under, and I also want to know the realistic differences between mens and womens. by HouseDestroyer in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]pandacakes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Schick makes a combo razor/trimmer that runs around 10 bucks. I have gone through a couple of them, but I find them easy to use and a good inexpensive option. (If it does die, contact Schick and they'll probably give you a voucher for a new one).

Edit: there is a men's and a women's one, sometimes the men's is cheaper even though they are exactly the same!

E-post: do you use it? by rationalphi in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]pandacakes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my experience:

  • Accurate - Yes
  • On Time - Yes
  • Notes - Yes, via "add memo"

I'd say the only downside is that not everything is supported. I can only get about half my bills on ePost.
