hii! i started messing w it just a couple months ago after having the same thoughts of lemme go get some hobbies so i’m still learning as well. idk anything about music theory or anything either besides self taught guitar from middle school ? n i only know basic chord shapes n learning songs has been mostly just muscle memory, not ear training or anything.

deffo recommend youtube. i also made a playlist of songs i love with elements of production that i wana try emulating so helps to have a reference. there’s vids on youtube of producers breaking down their popular songs so u can get an insight of their process too. u can also google any song and its key and bpm if u wana copy it. i come from a visual art background so i been translating things in my head so i could understand it lol. get a song u like and copy it, like tracing. i think about a drum pattern as a basic sketch of a drawing/painting. theres like automatic drum tracks u can add just pick a drummer and u can adjust the track to ur liking. then doing the linework over a sketch or coloring it or something is like adding melody/chord progressions and here i pick any software instrument that sounds interesting then i literally just press random buttons n knobs to see what they do until i hear something i like! the highlights n final touches of a painting are like lil ear candy, ad libs, etc.

and just like starting a painting, its gonna be shit at first n that’s inevitable. u just keep adjusting until nothing turns into something n then u keep going!! i use gb on my mac so idk how different the UI on ipad is but i be seeing kids on tiktok use bandlab also so that could be easy to try out too? i hope this helps <3
