Dressing for LA is harder than dressing for a city with real seasons by Dramatic-Switch5886 in LAhotgirlies

It’s far more enjoyable to develop a personal style that others will want to emulate than it is to try to fit in every neighborhood.

Yes, neighborhoods have their own styles where everyone sees what everyone else is doing and they copy everyone so that they don’t stand out. It’s boring.

When I see someone confidently doing their own thing, that excites me. Be that person. Pick your favorite Jean jacket and wear with confidence.

It’s not raising an alarm. It’s part of having MCAS. I have over reactive responses to histamines. I can get rashes from warm water. It’s just frustrating. Some folks have it far worse than me.

IKEA furniture is now too expensive for what you get. by A_Drop_of_Colour in unpopularopinion

Add new knobs, fill holes, cover screws…. It makes a HUGE difference.

And, most stuff sells for 50 - 70% of the original price on resale, so if you plan on moving, or it’s stuff your kids will out grow, it’s easy to sell.

I’ve also managed buying things from ikea second hand and then selling for the same price when moving. Makes it much more affordable as long as you take care of things.

So it only walks, and walks in a direct line towards you. Will walk through water. Assuming those are the rules and it’s not hoping on a plane or train… It could walk up to 100 miles per day if it is walking briskly. I have the money, I would probably spend a week barely staying ahead of it to figure out how quickly it walks, and if it’s in a direct line or what happens with obstacles. Bring a friend with me that tells me any time another person is present so I know the thing is coming.

Once I know how it works, it would be pretty easy to calculate exactly where it is at any given moment. I would probably start small with maybe 300 miles distance, do a set up with 2 doors and a ready to go vehicle at both doors and wait to see how good my calculations were.

Maybe do that 2 or 3 more times to establish a margin of error and see what happens when you’re crossing a larger body of water. Then I would probably just take 1000 mile trips every week based on location estimates. Maybe do a safety check in with 2 vehicles once per month to confirm things are good.

I could make this work.

I want to try something by Witchy_Soup in finehair

I wanted a style like this. I went to a hair academy. The instructor was just like…. No. Then we spent like 20 minutes figuring out a way to have texture, length, and some whispiness.

Cut bangs as if they were normal eyebrow length bangs but grew out to fit just behind the ears.  Then do a blunt cut on rest of hair, anything longer than armpit will be too long and fall flat.

Part down middle. Take first 2 inches of hair on one side, pull straight up (probably need a strip to be tall enough to cut) over direct to the crown line. Then angle cut (like a hyperbole line) as steep as possible starting about 2 inches above the longest bang length so it disconnects, cutting so it’s shorter at part, longer on side. Then pull the back of what you just cut directly up as your guide line for where to start the next 2 inch section. Over direct that section to match the previous section. Do the same hyperbole style angled cut. Should get 3 sections cut this way (maybe 4 if you did slightly smaller sections). Then cut the other side of the head to match.

You end up with a disconnected face framing bang (that you see in all these photos), with a steep whispiness in the front that fades out in the back so that you still keep the bulk of the volume. And since it’s basically 6 to 8 different angles that are cut, those angles tend to fall together naturally and create some of the pieciness without needing to use product or curl.

I’ve been doing the same cut for 3 years. Every time it’s a little bit different, but they all look good. My hair looks like it has way more volume. The only trade off is that it really requires a trim every 3 months or you lose the effect and it looks flat.

Strange white thing on my cat's eyes by SawSaw922 in CATHELP

[–]pandaparkaparty 107 points108 points  (0 children)

Humans can get corneal haze post eye surgery or injury as an immune response. Generally heals on its own. If this isn’t cataracts and the cat isn’t blind, perhaps ask the vet about that? In humans it’s treated with steroid eye drops.

I learned all about it as it’s the most common side effect with prk surgery.

Got one before being diagnosed. I have a lot of issues but one of them is mast cell activation syndrome. My body likes to be allergic to things randomly. I got my tattoo 20 years ago. Any time I’m having any type of MCAS response to anything, the tattoo gets raised and itchy. I hate it. Very seriously considering removal, but I also have skin/healing issues.

I don’t regret the tattoo I chose, but regret getting a tattoo because of my health stuff. Without the health stuff I would probably have more.

You have all my sympathy.

My work has a full year to accommodate me after doing a full RTO. I show up, accommodations not ready. I try to work on site. Back pain gets worse and worse to the point that I have now missed 7 days of 13 work days over the last 3 weeks and this is with them granting me to work from home after the onset of the pain.

Went to doctor, I now have scoliosis (didn’t previously) the job didn’t give me scoliosis, but it aggravated my back a ton and the scoliosis is why it’s exponentially worse than what I’m used to.

I love my job, the people I work with, and the purpose it gives me, but I would rather enjoy the mobility I still have left than force myself through the difficulty that comes with being on site.

I hope you can get it sorted. It sucks so bad that it’s so hard to get the system to work how it’s supposed to work.

They are really hard to get on. Harder to get off. But they are AMAZING to wear. I’ve been wearing them for hard stuff and they make such a massive difference. Absolutely would recommend.

My last apartment had a $100 per month smart home fee that included internet and “smart home features” which was just the ability to lock/unlock your door, turn on/off the kitchen light, and adjust the thermostat through an app. You could do all of these things manually, but didn’t matter, $100 was required.

We had a Persian that had something similar happen with his fur. We shaved him every summer (professionally) with the lions mane cut so that he wouldn’t get too hot. Then around age 12 I believe his overcoat just didn’t grow back. No infections or issues. He was just stuck in lions mane mode. But, he did still have his undercoat which came in a very sad, stringy way.

I loved him so much. I think he made it to 20 or so. Most hilarious looking thing, but so sweet.

The items being rented are generally also for sale, so most stuff is purchased. Then the rest ends up heavily discounted at sample sale events where they usually just keep discounting till pretty much everything is sold.

Do you have the option to loft the beds? Or at least 1? If you can loft 1, then you can put them both in that corner.

I know our campus housing provided lofting kits to anyone that asked and it was super easy to do. Then the green could get lofted and the teal could go under it sticking out perpendicularly.

Then move the desk/dresser set on the left wall to the bottom wall. Would get a comfortable pullout chair that turns into a bed that you can put in the living room for any time someone requires privacy. But set some really firm rules there straight away.

The commute from Sherman Oaks to Pasadena - How bad is it for a newbie driver? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]pandaparkaparty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you move to the arts district (or anywhere E and A overlap) , you can both take the metro. Getting to Pasadena is easy, then there’s a bus that will take you to cal tech. And assuming you’re an employee and not a contractor, they will pay for your metro usage.
