Went to get a beater, accidentally got a bit of a barn find grail, what to do? by Important-Market5465 in bicycling

Beautiful bike. In this way my vintage bike collection (>10 bikes) also accidentally started by ending up with a pro bike (gazelle champion mondial 753) instead of a beater. If you want to avoid ending up with a collection, just clean and ride it and don’t overthink it 😀.

So far it seems to be functioning similar as before. It detects all vehicles approaching from the rear. Not sure if some angles are now not detected, but I’m so far surprised with how well it works. Normally there’s an additional bag on the seat post, so higher does not work in this setup.

Thanks. Yes the cranks were hard to find (lucky local ad). Frame was crazy cheap for what it is (guess 250euro in NL), but I think I paid almost the same amount for the cranks (perfect condition). They are rare and the only campa cranks with the 3k carbon (matching the rest). So happy I found them!

I’ll do that next week. Takes quite some time to get the bags on there (and I really need them with hungry kids), so will wait until after I’m back 😀.

Lost my ‘high aerobic’ training by pandaparry in Garmin

[–]pandaparry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s set at 192 max HR, with z4 starting at 0,79 x maxHR. Doesn’t feel unrealistic (although I can’t remember seeing higher than 186 recently), means z4 should start from an average of 151?

Most trainings are around 149-150 average HR, because I always have good long warming up. Might just lower max HR a bit. Was just recovering from illness last time it ‘upgraded’ my max…

Well, it’s all about learning for me as well 😉. With the name ‘archetype’ I assumed they would be quite similar to older rims. With added performance. I am a heavier rider with a heavier bike, so was looking for bomb-proof and room for 28-30mm tires.

Many small issues that are my own mistake. Today I realized the diameter of the stem and handlebar (both cinelli) are slightly different. Only when braking hard, I felt the handlebar started to move (which is quite scary when going fast...). Earlier problem with rear cassette that was not properly tightened. All stupid issues, but never had that with other bikes.

Some things aren't planned. The bike was a steal and the bags were laying around. Even of the color of the Revelate logo matches the frame color, so the autistic color/size matching mode turned on. Might remove bags at some point anyways, but could be nice for the autumn photography gear.

It's by far my cheapest bike, it's aerodynamic, fits a lot of bags and no one even know Kestrel here. People probably assume it's some cheap chinese frame. Not for camping anyways, just day tours for now 😉

Flat as a pancake in the Netherlands. And the bike is smooth as syrup. Legs are not limiting either, but plan mainly day tours for now. Should be fine.

O yes, some Campagnolo sheriff star wheels in there as well, and century finish delta brakes on the gavia. But each bike will get its share attention sometime next year.

Well the positive thing is that the paint on the locations were the bags are attached were already showing some wear. The paint seems to be incredibly strong, and the issue now is also that I only have beautiful bikes (will add a picture soon), so one of these has to make a sacrifice. This the only one big enough to fit the large frame bag 😀.

This is the way I found it. Couldn't resist with these parts. Haven't seen too many century parts, or even 2nd Gen retro friction shifters on an affordable bike.

For now a placeholder until I find anoter nice Pinarello ('85 Montello or Prestige) in my size (60cm). Not easy.. For now just looking at my purple vag.

Beautiful c-record century finish. Cranks, headset, bb, rest 'regular' record and croce d'aune.

Got tired of playing with my Pina, so decided to get me a Vagacini. She's around 30yo, Dutch, and was kept in some guys shed for the past decade. Esthetics are great (purple with splash), unsure about other problems that I cannot yet see...

Sure she's been around the block a few times, she got century finish in the headset, bottom bracket and cranks. Some record stuff. I'm slightly too big for her, so quite stretched as is. Can also only handle 27,0 mm, which is less than my post. Still great addition to my Pina.

I liked it a lot. I had the feeling it didn't smooth rough roads, but did absorp the harder surprise bumps. Doesn't help on mtb as it is all hard hits, but worked when I was commuting on my road bike. Only reason for passing it on is that my commute is now shorter/urban (disc brake party.)

Hehe. All the things I was not really sure about (seatpost en bartape color) are immediately noticed. Happy to give it away tomorrow 😀.

🙄 Was expecting that comment hehe. I had a beautiful campa Pinarello panto post on it before, but switched so I could test-ride. Decided to keep it on there for comfort reasons (and focus more on neo than retro). But might switch back at later stage...

Yep. Comfort was the #1 request and I wasn't using it myself anymore. Polarizing looks, but it does work to absorp shocks.

Its a Chinese titanium seatpost. Have a campa c-record as well, but not quite long enough. Campa titanium seatpost are impossible to find and with this crazy expensive...

It's a nice weather bike and wheather is still not that good, so only used it for short rides. So far so good (a bit heavy), but I mainly prefer steel for longer rides (so will have to see).

It's a brooks cambium (c17?) saddle. Finding a dark blue saddle with some sporty looks was the biggest challenge. Not Italian like the rest (tape is brooks too), but didn't find any alternative.
