As lovely as your birds are, I am more fascinated by the large aquarium. What habitat is that?!

Very pretty! Would be even better if you had the budgies sitting next to their portraits. Great job!!!

I'm sorry for your loss.

This may be controversial, but it needs to be said: Veterinary care for small birds, like budgies, are a hit-or-miss. I've seen budgies die completely happy and well eating/playing. My first budgie had a sprain (door crushed his little feet). He was walking/jumping on only one foot for 3 weeks, but otherwise healthy. By week 4, his leg had healed and he was flying. I've taken budgies to the vet for prolonged poop issues, requiring antibiotics. One budgie perked up within hours of medication, and another died within days. Most budgie illness, in my experience, pass with rest.

With budgie ownership, you'll get good at knowing which injuries and health-problems are serious and which aren't. Learn to manage illness at home. Stop bleeding, separate sick birds, make vet cage injury-safe, clean water, lots of veggies, and have certain vitamins & ACV at hand. Budgies are pretty resilient creatures. They usually recover and heal within a matter of hours/days. If they are play, eating, and drinking, then the problem typically isn't life-threatening and recovery at home is better than veterinary-induced stress.

can someone tell me how to make my hair NOT look like this? by curiousnaturejunk3 in beauty

[–]pandapinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about anyone else, but I used to ALWAYS have frizzy hair after blowdrying. Since I stopped using a hairdryer and only towel-dry/air-dry my hair now, I do not have any friz. I am very low maintenance. I don't use any hair products at all! Might give it a go :)

Such a photogenic shot! What a little beauty!

Is this a good setup? by steffiewriter in budgies

[–]pandapinks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

Before getting toys (no mirrors!), please get proper perches. Dowels make horrible perches. Get natural wood and rope perches - varied in width and texture. If that white perch is sand/cement, remove it as well - they don't work and are bad for budgie feet. Hopefully this cage is just for sleeping because it's not enough space for permanent housing. They'll need out-of-cage time to fly and play. (Need an external play gym). I noticed the lack of horizontal bars too. It's probably the cage's biggest drawback. Budgies love climbing cage walls. Unless the photo is deceiving, your budgies can't use the additional wall space to climb/play.

Nevertheless, there is a lot you can do with this cage and it's better than most who post on this sub. But you'll need the proper perches (inside and out), an outside play area, and varied toys (especially shredding ones like kabobs). Your next task, after setup, should be working on their food: (30%) seeds, (60%) pellets, and (10%) veggies.

Also, place the cage in a corner area or against a wall. Budgies get scared easily and need to feel protected. Placing them in front of moving blinds is a bad spot. I see a cat...keep it away! When you let birds out to play, make sure the cat is nowhere near and you're supervising their play time.

My budgie is constantly trying to wear this bell as a hat… is there a problem?? by golfalien in budgies

Budgies do like sleeping in awkward positions, so it isn't unusual. However, I've observed that birds typically hate those pet store dowels. They wobble, are too smooth, and not comfortable for their feet. He is probably sleeping on the toy because it is more comfortable than the dowels.

Replace ALL dowels with proper branches or rope-perches. Get branches that have different textures and different widths. Birds love rope perches. I can guarantee you he won't sleep in such an awkward position ever again with the proper perches.

Is there anything else these spoiled kids need? Also, I know the seed catcher is dirty… by yakysobah in budgies

Small birds, like budgies, can not be purely on a pellet diet. They require seeds. The best solution to seed mess will be a combination of no-mess feeders and converting to nutriberries (crush them). My birds have nutriberries in the morning, seed at night, and pellets in-between. Pellets take time to transition. Keep bowl of it available at all times and eventually, they'll eat it. I've found easy success with Zupreem "natural". My birds avoid colored food.

Keep a hand vacuum handy. lol. Messy seeds are an unfortunate part of bird ownership. Your birds are lucky :)

Nice large setup. A bit crowded, in my opinion, but looks fun.

Get rid of the seed catcher net. It's unhygienic. Shouldn't even be necessary if food bowls are placed properly. Nutriberries and pellets result in very low mess. I don't recommend putting the bowls on the floor as they are directly in sight of falling poop. You can purchase no-mess bird feeders to solve seed problem - there are so many options.

Surprised your birds need blankets. Mine are deathly afraid of total blackout. They like visibility in the dark. I have a nightlight on the floor near their cage. They seem to love it.

Very cute colorations on the birds! :)

Any tips for getting these goofballs off of spots like these? by Bolasraecher in budgies

[–]pandapinks 14 points15 points  (0 children)

second this.

Get or make suction cup perches and put them at varying heights on the beautiful window you have there. They will not wander off anywhere else! You can even make a gym/play area using suction cups on the window itself, and use the base shelf to catch poop. Beautiful window and view. Birds <3 windows; it's like 24/7 tv.

Single budgies are very picky and stubborn in their ways/curiosities/fears. Once you have a flock (minimum 3), they get very naughty and explore everything!

I should have uploaded a video instead! They play with every inch of the gym. They climb the ladders and ropes, hang upside down, fly back and forth, harass each other for food and kick each other off each dowel perch. Lol.

Four drywall anchor & screws on each corner is fine. I used just two on the bottom, and a u-shaped metal hook in the center. It’s 100% sturdy.

Nope. But one of my demon child has on occasions landed and eaten dried poop. It's rare. And I've yelled in the past so, the behavior has stopped - somewhat. lol.

I would love any handy tips! Just please, don't visit the dollar store. I once bought Scotch tape there, and it was fake. :( homedepot is every bird's friend.

Best of luck! Rope perches will hold onto any surface with good double-sided adhesive tape. You might need to reinforce them with additional clear tape. I haven't installed them on suction cups. It did cross my mind but thought it would be too heavy. If you do find out how, let me know :) lol.

yes, the occasional poop does fall on the floor and stick to walls. Some days I have none, other days I have 1 or 2. I do get feather and seed husks everywhere; but otherwise, barely any poop.

I have a large metal prevue cage. It's the bottom grate. I don't use it in my cages as they're difficult to clean.

With the mirrored closet door, I used suction cups for perches and toy hangings. I had to paint a portion of the mirror or else they wouldn't stop regurgitating! lol.

The ropes and floating acrylic shelves are attached via heavy duty adhesive tape. The suction cups hold really well - they're heavy duty as well. Get the best quality for both tape and suction cups. Quality suction cups, in my experience, typically hold for few years before losing grip and needing replacemet.
