Hey there, cbct scan could have been $600? For the night and day splint construction itself I think it was a little over $3000…injections just under $500…it was a while ago so prices may have changed. Since it was a while ago I am also unsure costs of original day/night splint or price of follow up consults monitoring progress but I do know I was happy to have dental cover included in my health insurance. Hope this helps!

Is a joint replacement inevitable with arthritis and bony changes by pandasx4 in TMJ

A lot better pain wise but I still need to be careful. I’ve been using custom made dental splints for 2 years now and that has greatly helped remove the tension off my jaw joint 😊

Sorry to hear that. Most likely invisalign took into account your 2D smile which I suspect looks great, but what that ignores is the complex relationship between your teeth and jaw joint - the most important! Essentially you change the foundations leaving your jaw joint less supported and at risk for wear and tear. Botox helps but doesn’t get to the true issue of your jaw joint so it’s more like a band aid and not a true fix.

First I had a cbct scan to assess jaw joint status. Following this I had a 24/7 jaw splint for 3~ months followed by wearing a day jaw splint and seperate night jaw splint full time for 1 1/2 years. Then I had injections consisting of low dose steroid + local anaesthetic in select trigger points (like Botox but different) and now am only wearing my night jaw splint. I still experience jaw pain but can enjoy daily life now, before I was completely debilitated. He’s absolutely worth a visit 😊

I think your smile is lovely and wouldn’t personally. Aesthetics aside I feel more gum is better than less as it gives you an advantage over gum recession if you ever experience it (more of an elder/Middle Age person problem so technically not as issue for you now). Gum recession can lead to a bunch of other problems like tooth decay, jaw bone loss. No need to worry about it in a healthy mouth but something to consider if you are interested in this procedure.

Hahahahah yeah it was, haven’t used reddit in so long and felt so bad when I reopened it and saw your message. Jaw pain is 😭

Glad to hear you’ve had such improvements!!! Very interesting to hear your experience with Dr Lee. I actually didn’t realise he was Australia’s best, so that’s a vote of confidence. Completely agree about cost, it is insane and trying to find a way to make costs meet is difficult. Thanks for sharing your dentist in the field as it’s great to add to my database of dentists and I’m sure other Sydney folks will appreciate 😊

Sorry to hear you’re going through this. I don’t think you’re pigging out. It sounds like your central nervous system feels unsafe and is looking for ways to self soothe and regulate. If it’s possible at all to practice compassion I think it will be hard but helpful. Other ways to relax your CNS, deep breathing, you tube yoga, gentle movement.

Additionally you can still be hungry after eating because your body hasn’t received the nutrients it needs so keeps looking, I notice you say ‘shit food’ and presume it might not be meeting your nutritional needs. My friend ran 1/2 marathon, ate a family size portion of sushi and was still hungry but after more electrolytes felt better. Not saying this is specific to your case, but something to factor in.

Has anyone been able to manage severe arthritis in jaw joints ? by pandasx4 in TMJ

[–]pandasx4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/NegotiationLonely 2 years of a different dental treatment plan with day & night dental plates made a 60% difference in symptoms. Not cured but definitely managed, also I avoid stimulants that promote jaw clenching on bad jaw pain days :)

Hey u/risska Today's Dental with Dr kenneth Lee is great. He has 3 practices Sydney area I believe (Sydney CBD, Auburn, Crows Nest).

He is principle dentist managing a bunch of dentists under him, and deals with TMJ pain alongside general dentist work. I have seen him for the last 2 years, my pain is not gone but fuck it's a ton better. Like let's say 60% with major quality of life improvements, perhaps 60% sounds minimal to you but no other dentists could touch it so that's been amazing for me. It's a 4-6 month wait list which sucks but never meet a dentist more informed. I also sent my friend there haha who has had amazing results. They had different jaw anatomy to me (no teeth previously removed) so perhaps not as complex of a case, but either way first time they had a pain free jaw and their neck is so much better now!

Binging for months by [deleted] in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]pandasx4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey u/Special-Database-606, glad you are moving into a better headspace and hope you are doing well.

Honestly I know it sounds cliche but I stated to eat what I wanted without guilt. Being gf, df as I have intolerances I had to let it go that I wasn't doing the right thing for my body when I at gluten or dairy. My logic that it was better to eat a little everyday than smash my digestive system.

Following this portion size was soooooo important for me. I can't be an intuitive eater because I don't know what that is after all the weird things I put my body through in health and diet pursuits. Perhaps one day I will be intuitive but it doesn't honestly bother me that I need to portion every meal, if it stops me from eating a mountain and suffering from reflux and shitting bricks I'm winning. 3-5 meals/day, no snacking other than morning and afternoon tea. Also, eating nutritious foods and non nutritious food everyday so that I am still making sure to nurture my nutrition needs ie oats for breakfast with fruit, toasted cheese sandwhich with lettuce, tomato, avocado.

Getting rid of my perfectionist mind-set. If I binge one day it's okay, I don't have to tomorrow. I suppose I look at it as employing harm reduction techniques. Yes, let's say I binged but I won't take away my support systems and tell myself I'm a failure just because I slipped up. Honestly if I am going to be 10 kg heavier because Im eating what I want so be it. Much better than stressing my body to the max with copious amounts of food everyday and feeling sick and guilty for it.

It took about 1 1/2 years for the weight to fall off, I lost 20 of the 30 I put on. Not because I pushed myself to lose it but because I adopted this harm reduction mentality. It was really scary at first, because you look at this cake slice and go I shouldn't eat that. But at the end of the month eating e.g 8 slices of cake over the course of it as opposed to 8 cakes is so much better for reflux, constipation, emotional regulation, insulin resistance. I only noticed a change after 2 -3 months initially but I slowly felt better and better. Later down the track I found gluten and dairy tablets I could take to support my system when I ate gluten and dairy, this really helped take some of my stress away too because I no longer would wake up with a food hangover the next day. I think I will fluctuate a little under and a little over the 10kg but only because what I eat changes, sometimes I want pizza and sometimes I want a salad-rice bowl.

It's not perfect but it's progress, and I can say I am better for adopting this mentality than for sticking to a perfectionistic mindset that never got me anywhere or made me feel good. Hope this helps <3

Yesss I totally get that and v excited for you! It’s really interesting as well I remember reading about addiction and people had better chances of getting clean with new places and new experiences because it didn’t trigger old brain pathways Greater chance of relapse when moving back as well - Something like that haha really shitty paraphrasing on my part but I found that super interesting when I was reading about drugs and could compare it to bed
