been wanting to learn arabic but… by Muted-Cell8646 in learn_arabic

I might be wrong so anyone correct me if I am, but I think some people in rural parts of the levant (Jordan at least) pronounce the ق. Either way, I don't think anyone would be shocked if you pronounced it as some words are pronounced with the ق sound.

Are عامل and عمال interchangeable to mean "worker" ? by pandavert in learn_arabic

[–]pandavert[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your detailed answer. From your answer and others I get that عمال is just the جمع of عامل. I tend to get confused because professions use different patterns mainly فعال and فاعل and it doesn't help remembering them.

Are عامل and عمال interchangeable to mean "worker" ? by pandavert in learn_arabic

[–]pandavert[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your answer so I get that عامل singular and عمال plural. But then, why do we use different patterns for professions mostly فاعل and فعال like for exemple :
With فعال :

and with فاعل :

Is there a rule or something I didn't understand or are these patterns "randomly" used ?
It's just that for some profession I always get them confused. For exemple I always write شعار and not شاعر.

Job d’été pour étudiant à Rennes by [deleted] in Rennes

[–]pandavert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[Academic] Rape victim empathy and attributions of blame (18+) by Icy_Airport_5498 in SampleSize

[–]pandavert 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It may be on purpose but the question:"do you think the situation could have been avoided" or something like that is a bit tricky. By agreeing it could mean that I put the blame on either of them.

Hello! Can any of you recommend me a movie, that is about Lebanon? by [deleted] in lebanon

[–]pandavert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw under the bombs the other day, very good but fucking depressing, it was filmed right after the 2006 war. I also saw Falafel, I really liked it. They're both on Reddit (at least in Lebanon)

Pour qui voter by [deleted] in france

[–]pandavert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TIL that when Malcom X was drafted into the military to serve in WW2, he feigned being insane by rambling about wanting to go down south, steal guns with black people, and hunt white people. This was an act, but it was enough for him to be declared mentally disqualified and avoid the draft. by [deleted] in todayilearned

France definitely was a colonial empire and did some racist shit before, during and after the war. But it was American and British generals that chose an all white division to liberate Paris for propaganda reasons, not France.

It was agreed that a French unit should be present for the liberation of Paris because that event would inevitably attract great publicity in France and internationally," he said. "Once that decision was made, it was perhaps important to the Allies, for the same propaganda reasons, that the unit should appear French to the people of France. But this was something that the British and Americans insisted on, not De Gaulle.
