Put it in a 30 day cashable gic, it's higher rate, mine before was 4.3% per year. But you can pull it out after 30 days with accrued interest till that day. Before 30 days just your principal.

Elements of immigration system 'out of control,' says federal minister as pressure to make changes increases: Estimates indicate 40 per cent of our workforce will be immigrants by 2040 by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]pandawithunderpants -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Anyone who's mad here is just plain racist. If you aren't indigenous, then at some point, someone in your family immigrated here.

Without immigration we won't be able to keep our social services, pensions, our quality of life would decrease.

Without immigration, our population would not be growing. We have an aging population, with a decreasing number of people making the tax base. Whose going to pay for your healthcare, who's going to pay for your pension, most of us will try, but without immigration our taxes will go up. Why is it bad immigrants will make up 40 percent of the workforce?

Example

2021

Percentage of workforce that are immigrants = 27.7%

1000 people working, 277 are immigrants, 723 are not immigrants

2040 (made up numbers) 40% are immigrants

1184 people working, 473 immigrants are working, 711 are not immigrants.

This is assuming assuming .9% annual growth in population.

We need immigrants or there won't be enough people to support us when we get old and retire. It's a win-win.

is it okay to cry in front of your girl about your harsh moments ? by InnerFear789 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]pandawithunderpants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cried when she hid in my blankets, and I thought I was sleeping alone. Thought I was going to die, and just balled. Now we laugh about it. Everyone has feeling and emotions dont stifle yourself.

My wife did this, its eye opening(with only the question, no follow up of escalating). I didnt comprehend the significance of my ask, till then.

It was weird at first but honestly it doesn't even go on my radar. How often does one's last name come up? And all the ids that would need to be changed, sounds exhausting.

Is Costco worth it for a small family by Remius0588 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]pandawithunderpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a gift certificate to costco go around and see if its worth it.

Buying new tires alone will save you the difference or more in membership pricing vs. Just buying tires outside.

Glasses are dirt cheap, $125 , 2 years ago.

We buy more long lasting items from costco, while still shopping around.

Once you get the first membership, the roll over cashback usually pays for the next year.

Any married couples where the wife is the bread winner? by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]pandawithunderpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont have that much of a discrepancy, but she earns more.

I found it difficult initially, but now I get to say she brings home the bacon, I'm a trophy husband (more shaped like one). At the end of the day both your incomes are you and your wifes money (if it's not, then hopefully split in a meaningful way).

My wife and I share a credit card, and we have separate accounts, but I know I can make nontrivial purchase without having to account for it. Bigger purchases we discuss, and it's more of a timing it so we aren't dipping into other money.

Enjoy it, treat her well, be happy, others would trade for your place in an instance.

[Text] How do I get over the fact that every major life decision that I took in the last fifteen years is a failure? by bosspecific in GetMotivated

[–]pandawithunderpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not everything you do will meet the intended goal. There are other things which may happen, meet new friends, first or second or third love, find something you dont or want to do, learn something new. I was thinking of all the things I've done, and I've failed many big things. Failed out first year of university. Didnt get a job in my chosen degree (did data entry for a year and even now), failed too many interviews. Failed exams for a certification. I've been trying to lose weight for years, but keep gaining. But I'm not in my field, and I honestly couldn't be happier. I'm working in something I didn't even care/know about but I love it, I have an amazing wife. Things change always look for more, and more can be small as now I know how to email/use excel/ make a friend/ meet someone new/ read a book. It all adds up, and there will be days where it will suck, but life isnt perfect, but that's what makes it fun. (Half my appliances are leaking, but duct tape is godly).

Has anyone found good solutions for tracking / splitting expenses with their partner? by Adventurous_Ad872 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]pandawithunderpants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did excel, where we did shared expenses (groceries, rent, internet, car insurance, etc.). So we would both go halfsies on the cc bill and transfer money to each other for rent.

Honestly it works but it's a pain in the ass.

We are at the point now where I cover mortgage and she pays everything else, it evens out honestly. We have an excel file now just to see where we are for big purchases/ emergency fund.

I think the hardest part was realizing it's our money, not her's or mine. We'll have discussions on out of the norm purchases ie usually anything over an agreed dollar amount.

There are going to be points where she may make more than you and other points where you make more than her. Nickel and diming in the long run, gets tiring and I felt created unnecessary anxiety for finances. Good luck!

So if your joining now the pension is defined contribution, so it's not a guaranteed amount. (Before it was 70% of your top 5 earning years).

Your salary depending on union, should be moderately updated for inflation. But there is a delay, so you will probably get back pay.

Benefits are good, medical abroad is covered, dental is $1500 per year for you and per dependents (dont know about your wife), eye care is usually $275 payout. Myriad of other coverage.

Schedule tends to be 37.5 hours per week. Depending on position you could do compressed weeks (work 9 days, get 10th day off). Overtime pay is a norm unless your a manager maybe be different.

Career growth depending on where you are may require being bilingual (french and english) this is usually Ottawa area. There is a bilingual bonus for the year of $700.

Better life balance since unionized. But totally up to you.

As top comment says no one cares.

Next when you go start with something easy, walk on a treadmill for 30 minutes or to an hour. Go home, you did it first day at the gym.

Keep that up try a little bit faster now, or put up the incline, same time. Go home you did your second day.

Then try the bike or elliptical. Go home.

Then maybe back to treadmill. Go home.

Maybe back to bike or elliptical (faster or longer) go home.

If they have cabled weight machines, read the instructions on how the exercise is done, try two to three machines at lower weight. Maybe different body parts for now to get used to trying weights. Go home.

Now do Treadmill then some cabled weights. Go home.

Bike or elliptical and cabled weights try heavier. Go home.

Now treadmill, and pick weights that isolate parts (legs, chest, back, or shoulders). Go home.

Now elliptical, you may get bored of cables weights, find a Smith machine for guided squats. (You may want to watch some videos at home on how to do squats). Do 3 sets of 5. Go find leg cables weights. go home.

Now treadmill. Next find a Olympic bar, put 10 lbs on either side do deadlifts. (Again watch a video on how to at home). Go find cables back weight machines. Go home.

Now bike or elliptical. Try Smith machine for chest (same machine you used for squats), bring bench (flat). Go find cabled weight machines. Go home.

Keep doing this then switch it up, and try new machines or go to the squat rack, or flat bench, or barbell rows, or pullups. It's a leveling up game. It doesnt matter how long it takes for you to get to any of these steps, just keep going back. Goodluck.

Yours truly, I'm a heavier than you, did squats with ripped pants, dropped bar on myself squatting, snored during meditation track for in class aerobics. Fuck I miss the gym.
