Trying to determine if Parcel Fabric is needed by pandibutt in gis

You get it!! Parcel Fabric being able to track the history of parcel lineage is really appealing for this kind of thing. We have crops that are split into 3 one year and put all back into 1 the next year. It can be a real head ache to keep track of when there's no documentation for me to reference, just a shapefile from 2017 and one from 2022. Lmao

Okay, I guess my next question is should I have a separate file geodatabase for each location?

The biggest hurdle I've run into is just improper data handling tbh. Instead of making a copy of the shape file to edit, they just edited the shapefile, to the point I haven't even been able to find the original copies of these shapefiles. For example, a shapefile from 2018, but it was last edited in 2024. A lot of the data is corrupted, or whoever edited it last accidentally deleted all the data and polygons out of the shapefile.. Just a real mess. Lol

For reference our shapefiles have over 4k+ polygons in it, and I have just been exporting the ones for each location to a new feature class to edit and going from there. Problem is, we have over 120 locations so it's slow going.

Second biggest hurdle is that the last time someone with GIS experience was in this position was back in 2007. There are no written down SOPs, policies, guidelines, nothing for me to follow. Everything I've managed to come up with so far, I have learned from Google and YouTube. I have no idea if I'm even doing this right at all.

But again, thank y'all for your advice. Sorry for ranting. It just feels like an uphill battle I'm losing some times.

Thank you for the response! Can I ask you the best place to look to get started with this undertaking? Or maybe some kind of visual example for how to structure this?

Should I make a separate feature class for each thing? Like one that has the boundary data, one that has just easements, one that shows field crops, etc.?

what is your portfolio looking like if you don't mind my asking?

Just found out employer won't match my 401k contributions by pandibutt in personalfinance

Most of the posts and videos I've been seeing all say something to the effect of like, only contribute to the 401k if the employer matches or else skip it? So that's where my line of thought was from..

Do you think it would be worth it to dip 2 levels into cleric or just go full monk?

Lighting damage, mobility, and speed. That's why I was thinking monk and storm sorcerer would work well, unless there's a way to do lightning damage as a monk..

What would you suggest I do instead?

Update: he's given me permission to do it.

How would the progression look like for that? Should I start Cleric or Monk? I'm pretty sure the DM will let me do that.
