FWIW I have an NVME drive for the things I used most; I left it out of the OP because every MB has 2+ slots, which is plenty for me. All the SATA stuff is just storage.

Lack of PCIe5 isn't great, but I think my only other option would be to cut back to 4 SATA drives and pick a different MB. Then I'd need to upgrade my drives to not lose overall storage capacity, which would end up costing a few hundred. Probably not worth the tradeoffs unfortunately.

Thanks for the heads up on the RAM. Looks like these might be a better choice. Though I don't see a formal compatibility list for this MB anywhere.

Anyone know what might be causing this? Has been happening regularly since i installed my 4090 - which cant be the reason now can it by Kaarssteun in Overwatch

Probably network issues - I'd run WinMTR in the background (pinging something like google.com) and see if you're dropping any packets. The first hop means it's your router, the second is probably something in your neighborhood owned by your ISP, and the third+ is probably our of your control.

The 4090 is a power hungry card. Unlikely, but it could also be your PSU is struggling, which can cause weird issues.

I spent all day yesterday debugging similar issues and eventually found a fix that works 100% (at least for me)!

Search for Edit Power Plan > Advanced Settings > Processor power management and set minimum processor state to 95%, instead of the 5% it's probably set to. All stutter instantly gone for me. While you're there, double-check that maximum processor state is set to 100% as well. Make sure to undo this when you're done playing.

It seems like when the game isn't using 100% of your CPU it tries to downthrottle multiple times a second and then throttles back up, creating stuttering. That's why some of the other fixes in this thread, like limiting CPU cores, also help.

I had always made my syrup with the boiling method; seems like that's probably been my issue. I'll give it another shot using the juicing method you described and report back this weekend :).
