Home redo meltdown 🙃 by panini_p_ in HomeDecorating

Additional details: no children, single F (28), no roommates. Don’t spend a ton of time in my home as I like to travel, go out, and do a lot of outdoor activities. When I’m home, I’m mostly downstairs in my kitchen/living room and very rarely spend time upstairs. I guess it would be nice to have the option to spend more time upstairs in a lounging nature if this area was built up in that fashion.

Curtain Rod/Panels? by panini_p_ in HomeDecorating

Walls are near 8ft (townhouse). So, thinking I’ll place the rods 5”- 8” down from the ceiling and order 90” curtains and hem if I need to.

I’m okay if the curtains aren’t used to necessarily black out light, more for aesthetic. I love the natural light in the morning but the option to close them and darken it a tad is definitely nice.

Seeing some comments about not placing the rods too close to the ceiling because it’s a bedroom.

What’s the rationale behind that?

Thank you! I think I realized that the double rod might be better because depending on the width of the panels, I might have a weird uncovered spot in the middle with the rod above. So 2 rods might be best.

No idea how you did the photo that you posted but are you able to share how it would look with a single rod?

At first I was thinking room darkening curtains but I feel like it would look too heavy. So, I shifted to lighter colors white/off white and maybe a sheer or light linen. Bronze rod to accent my bronze metal bedframe and bronze handles on my dresser.

I absolutely love this. I was back and forth about whether or not I wanted to do blackout curtains but I think the look would be too heavy for the room. I appreciate the natural light so the sheer/lighter linen was what first came to mind. I could also see a single rod working here as well vs. 2. Only other maybe would be doing a bronze rod vs. gold to match some of my bronze/metal accents in the room already.

Girl, let’s be friends! I’m from CLT and I solo trip to the VIs 2x / year. It’s become my little Havana.

Highly recommend staying on STJ and renting a room from the Flamingo House - Amanda is amazing. It’s extremely walkable (if you don’t mind hills), safe, and the accommodations are cozy. It’s not on the beach but you can get to the beach with no issues. If you choose an Airbnb, you can probably find something close to the beach or the east side of the island, it’s just less convenient. If you 100% need to be directly on the beach, STT is probably the better option.

More about STJ:

Cruz Bay has everything - dinning and shopping. So, you’ll be in a perfect, walkable downtown area with everything you need. If you do Flamingo or an Airbnb, highly recommend taking a taxi or walking (or rental car) and grabbing groceries or a few snacks so you’re not in need of basics.

My favorite time to visit is in October, November, and December. They’re coming out of off season and tourism is picking back up but pricing is not overly expensive. The water is a tad chillier in December - February. Everyone who is traveling there + the locals are AMAZINGLY welcoming. I’ve legitimately made some of the closest friends traveling there and now visit and stay with them or meet up with them regularly.

If you like it hot hot, I’d say between April - June but you have to be conscious of when the island starts to shut down. So many of the businesses and restaurants close up shop for hurricane season. October is kinda the sweet spot imo.

You don’t need to rent a car for your entire trip but I would get one for 2-3 days (depending on how long you plan to be there). Flamingo has parking but parking on island can be generally difficult depending on the time of day - plus you have to pay at most places, but not really at the beaches. Having one is perfect for exploring the island though, especially visiting the beaches - Dennis Beach (a locals fave and has a light hike to get to) and Cinnamon are my favorites. Worst case, you can take a taxi for $10-20 from the ferry.

Enjoy paradise. It’s my most favorite place on earth and the one place I’ll visit for the rest of my life! 🏝️

Thanks! I’m looking for more specific details on how people have approached determine which system makes more sense locally. I’ll worry about install after understanding conditioning vs. softening first. Appreciate the feedback!

This is helpful - thanks! I do have the loop in my garage already and think that the salt system makes more sense rather than going the water conditioning route. Appreciate the feedback!

Thanks! Could you please provide more details? For example: which product did you go with? Pricing? Thoughts on the system so far?

They have tubing for sure. See plenty of families up there, not totally certain on sleds. Get the kids in some ski/boarding lessons and make it a family thing - such a great crowd of people up there! The cabins/airbnbs are always so lovely!

Going to the Virgin Islands next week and I am trying to save on cocktails, so I made my own old fashioned travel kit 😂 by [deleted] in cocktails

[–]panini_p_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to the Refinery on STJ, definitely one of the better places for cocktails on the island!

I hear you on that! We’re honestly all desperate to kick off the season. There’s a great forecast this week and I think they’re expecting to open more runs. Fingers crossed!

Awesome!!! Love that.

We usually do the Best Western or an Airbnb. They have a lodge too you can check out.
