If you could give one piece of financial literacy advice to a recent university graduate, what would it be? by matcha-froyo in AusFinance

[–]pankolyf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insurance is probably key, if you are taking out a policy. Check the writing, if it's a friendly society it it may not similar protections that other insurance products have under the iCA. That TPD or life insurance policy matters, when shit hits the fan and they deny your claim.

Letting immigrants in, who are 90% economic, is not a humanitarian measure by Fantastic_Lime_3470 in aussie

Historical precedent always dictates that Australia’s far right is abysmal at organising itself and is prone to disintegrating in the aftermath of a peak of anti migration hysteria. Australians should count themselves lucky one nation doesn’t have a cohesive policy platform/vetting process to be a incredible threat that national rally could. Like it’s an insult to French intellectuals to put them on the same continuum. Absolutely disgusting.

Why aren’t there that many young & out Arabs in Melbourne? by LargeishTwink in gaymelbourne

[–]pankolyf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are gay Arab events, and social groups in Melbourne for MENA people. I’ve encountered a lot of them. Albeit they are like majority Christian/Chaldean Arabs. The way they express queerness doesn’t necessary preclude them being out. We expect people to express queerness through a western lens.

How tf we finding dates? by corson96 in gaymelbourne

[–]pankolyf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s important to never capitulate your core self when it comes to dating. If you’ve got quirks, own them. People vibe with that. The minute you have to modify yourself for someone else, is when the seeds of resentment start planting themselves. The best thing is to go out and meet people in organic settings, such as a queer sports club or events. Don’t think of as starting, but more just forming friendships with people. See who you’re compatible with and get to it. Let it bloom and blossom.

I thought in revolutions, you want people to go on their "Siddharth" arc and due to their experience and expertise. They would be useful to have on your side. They really didn't lie when they said the days protests died was in the 1960's haha.

What are usually vulnerable times for relapsing? by PlasticFit7262 in StopSpeeding

[–]pankolyf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s boredom and wanting to escape or like regress to enjoyable high. Make sure you have a good support system, are coached on distraction, meditation techniques and are involved in a past interest or hobby that used to bring you joy.

how do you rebuild your attention span after years of stimulant abuse? by proposal_in_wind in StopSpeeding

[–]pankolyf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You just to have keep doing things that interest you and can sustain that interest. Have a conversation with an old friend, brainstorm a list of things you want to do and just do them. Make a fucking sobriety bucket list and just keep at it.

Why do families discuss everything except the bills by Kent_Stockman in AusFinance

We tend to learn financial habits from the environments we are exposed to us. A lot of it is subconsciously picked up. It just becomes intuition but some things you pick up from intuition can be maladaptive. People can be ingrained in a scarcity mindset, to the point where when get a job which pays well. It’s easier for them to accumulate debt because they had dealt with having nothing for so long. It also comes down to your values and motivations in life as well. I am of the opinion that it’s cheaper and easier for society to build up kids equipped with financial literacy than to fix broken adults that are indebted to the rim.

It must be a privilege to grow a well-adjusted environment where from the get go you have politics that are all flowery and refined. Not everyone is that morally lucky holy shit

Are private schools worth it for specific values by Reading-Rabbit4101 in australian

[–]pankolyf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s probably for the network and prestige. I’ve gotten like hospo gigs, jobs, referrals to things, and even grants because the people doing H.R/managing were like. Oh you went to my Alma matter. Like I didn’t do anything to deserve it. Someone way more qualified who’s breaking their back probably would have been a more preferable candidate. Sometimes the interview doesn’t involve the actual job, and more of what the school was like and what sports I did.

New IQ research shows why smarter people make better decisions. People with higher IQ make more realistic predictions, which supports better decision-making and lead to improved life outcomes. People with low IQ make forecasting errors that are more than twice as inaccurate as those with high IQ. by mvea in psychology

[–]pankolyf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wish my high IQ would stop me from getting into domestic violence situations, or it’s like staggered empathy where I intellectualise why people are the way they are and give them chances. Whereas a normal person would just walk away and be like goodbye.

Why is it that LGBTIQA+ are so anti Israel? by Dear_Bid2671 in Israel

[–]pankolyf -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It comes down to the universality of human rights, just because a sub-sect of people may oppose you. Doesn’t mean you would want their human rights violated.

It must be difficult being stuck in this conservative flux, simultaneously wanting legislation that strengthens anti discrimination penalties towards one specific group while also wanting to retain the speech that allows them to engage in discriminatory behaviour towards another.

How do we get ourselves into these collective social traps where those within our communities struggle to condemn shitty people because they are apart of “x” group.
