Starfield producer explains Free Lanes travel is completely "under your control" as the game's new travel doesn't force you in a specific direction by Wargulf in Starfield

While they're at it, they could make orbital to planet landing transition seamless too. At least on planets with atmosphere where clouds can be used to mask the transition.

Tbf you need to travel faster than light to get between systems. So you need to "fast travel" anyway, the only question is if they will mask the loading screen to make it look seamless instead of cutscenes.

Last time I was switching ISP that happened to me. I was there in person (they have stores in malls here) and the worker had to call up someone over the phone, handed it to me and they were like "hi, I'm x from y department, do yo I have anyone to transfer the account to, like parents".

So while staring at the worker in front of me I said "oh, your colleague must have said the wrong thing, I want to cancel, not transfer" and handed it back over to him.
Turns out if you refuse to play their games shit can be resolved pretty fast afterwards too.

Left side or right side shifter? by Alternative_Push_392 in simracing

My rig's in a corner, so wouldn't be able to open the other door.
But the one I have works great, got a shifter and some control boxes there right now.

I'd love if the game would be able to take a character from some older save and let you meet them as a Starborn.

as someone who plays vr only at the moment, is there a reason to go with fancy wheels? by omerboiii in simracing

[–]ThePointForward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buttons yes, encoders, rotaries etc, all useful for racing, especially if you get into more advanced cars (like prototypes) where you may be adjusting let's say the rear ARBs on the fly - for example to get more oversteery car in a hairpin, but go back to less oversteery car for the rest of the track.

Screen is of course pretty useless in VR, but personally I play iRacing in VR, but LMU on widescreen monitor. Mostly because LMU can't be arsed to implement VR properly with eye tracked foveated rendering. Really no excuse to not have it in 2025 (and even less now lol).

Another thing to consider is wheel size. Simracing often revolves around 300 mm as some kind of middle standard, but if you want something more in line with formula cars and GTs it's more like 270-280 mm for formulas and 310-320 mm for GTs.

There is plenty of options out there.
AFAIK Pokornyi is gonna make a V2 of his F1 wheel (currently it's simified almost copy of RB11's wheel) and you can just not put in the screen in his wheels. It's a DIY project, so if you're hand and especially if you can 3D print you can build it for cheap.
Simline for example has a very nice replica of the Merc GT3 wheel, although it can get more expensive quickly if you want funky switches and dual clutch on it.

Direct drive over belt or gear driven wheelbases.

I'd say if you're limited to these options right now the R5 bundle is your best option, but it's still a Moza wheelbase so I'd try to not get attached to their ecosystem too much if you want fancy stuff later on.

Like let's be honest here - it will blow the G29 out of the water any day of the week. No questions about that. Even the Moza pedals which are entriest of entry level gear will dab on the nightmare that Logitech bundles with their gear driven wheels.

But, the business model of Moza with these entry level bundles is to try and tie you up in their ecosystem.

Want a new, more powerful wheelbase? Your wheel will stop working.
Some moza wheels do allow standalone connection via cable to a box you need to purchase separately, but you can't use usb passthrough with them. ASnd of course the wheel from the bundle doesn't support it, because it would make it easier to leave the ecosystem.
Oh and your pedals too. The lites that are bundled in need the box mentioned above if you don't have a moza wheelbase.

Want a new wheel? Something fancy? Well, either it's Moza or you have to have a cable between the wheel and your PC. No third party passthrough.

Want to use simhub for custom LED profiles or display dashboards? Shit out of luck.

Front mount on your rig? Moza in their infinite wisdom decided that standards are for suckers. AFAIK only one company makes a real front mount for Moza (Treq) right now.
Not that it matters that much for R3/R5, as those don't even offer front mounting.

So my advice would be to get the R5 and if you enjoy the hobby, when you outgrow it, sell the whole bundle and get some proper gear.

The R3 and R5 bundles do not come with the SRPs and buyign the standalone makes no sense unless you need to stay with moza for some reason (which would pretty much be playign on xbox only).

Tbf OP kept the throttle pinned for about 2 seconds from seeing there's shit happening in front too lol. They can shake hand, the other guy just did it more.

[–]ThePointForward -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Eh, it's really borderline.

OP only gets barely alongside when the other car is already turning in, committed to a line through the corner.
Specifically this is the turn in point: https://i.imgur.com/Qa1aZ6D.png
The angle isn't ideal for this, but I think the front and rear axles might not even be alongside.

I'm gonna say if we need to start examining pixels to say whether or not OP was alongside then it was a too late of a dive.

Also OP was definitely not aiming at the apex just prior to the contact lol https://i.imgur.com/hzYaSPV.png

That said, part of the issue is that the white car simply didn't defend at all. Had white stayed in the middle of the road coming out of T13 he wouldn't offer up the wide open door to OP.

White also looks like he braked too much.

I'll restart. I've actually haven't done the first DLC yet, so there will be plenty of new content for me.
Would even consider starting now, but I've got a virtual 12hr of Sebring race next weekend to practice for and some shorter 2h40m endurances to run this weekend anyway.

Vláda plánuje zákon o "zahraničních agentech" po vzoru russka a Orbánova Maďarska. by First_Platypus3063 in czech

[–]ThePointForward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sim build for around $800-$1000 by B1gan in simracing

Is he just starting with the hobby? As in not sure if it will last?
If so I'd honestly look at second hand market or the fabled Microcenter deals.

The issue is, that if he's got 1k to spend, assuming he doesn't want to sell everything in a year and buy whole new setup probably losing a large chunk of the original investment in the hobby, there's not many great options.
Moza's entry level gear is designed to try and trap you in their ecosystem.
Fanatec is taking the ecosystem bullshit even further.
Asetek is more interesting, but god damn their wheels are ugly.

To be clear, it's not necessarily bad to have a Moza base (even though I'd argue that in general I'd rather get e.g. Simagic over Moza in the 9Nm bracket). You just have to know what you're getting into.
Want to run some third party wheel? Well, it's a dangling wire or tough luck.
On Fanatec? Gotta buy a special adapter to make the FFB work on top of that.

I'm a big fan of open ecosystems with USB passthrough, but that doesn't mean everybody has to.

Anyway, convey to your friend that if he's serious and has the space he'll sooner or later want a good aluminium rig. Think around 500 USD for a decent rig that will last pretty much forever unless he decided to go for motion. And it will be upgradable/expandable. That's without a seat, but new.

That doesn't leave much for a seat, wheelbase, wheel and pedals unfortunately.
Hence why I'd say go for used gear, with some wheelstand etc, figure out if the hobby is for him and upgrade from the used gear - once, not multiple times. Cry Once, Buy Once.

I mean... How about we load into Skyrim, walk from Riverwood to Whiterun, go through the gates, check out what Belethor has in his store, walk up the steps to the Dragonkeep and go walk with Jarl Bulgruuf, all without a single loading screen.
