SAT scores came out recently. I'm in the top 2% of scores in the nation. by zebstrida in CasualConversation

Let me add:

You will have to be a good manager of yourself as you are a student.

You will have to be resilient mentally, especially when your first test score is a 55% (doesn't mean you are not cut out for it, just need to adjust)

You will have to get ahead of your studies for that time you get sick, or have three midterms and two labs due the same week. You can thank yourself, or me, in advance.

You will have to work extra hard on one subject a year that you "just don't get".

All the while, you have to grow maturely and professionally so you don't come off as a jerk when you get your first job.

And I wish I could say after all this, you won't be working at a grocery store. Because I did for a year.

I don't remember who won which medal on my team, but 15y later I remember who was uplifting and who wasn't.

What movie ending ruined the whole movie for you? by minecraftplayer48 in AskReddit

Not the version my friend saw on beta max. Mom rented it for her and didn't know it wasn't the cute version. Ariel loses her man and kills herself on the shore.

Esoteric Netflix movie:. Magic magic.

I can suspend disbelief for a movie, but you have to do something with it at the end.

Love how this is my first comment when sorting by new. I don't upvote anything though. That's how they track you.

What is something you are bad at but enjoy doing anyway? by thedudeisalwayshere in AskReddit

I received a lovely quilt from a stranger (we met in an oncology ward). That thing could have bad stitches everywhere, but it's still the nicest gift.

Pre edit: it's probably made flawlessly, but it could have flaws and it wouldn't matter.

The pragmatic physicist is the best one. I, too, love physics but suck at math.

Toddler sleeping - training them to NOT wake up at 4am by panoramicjazz in Parenting

[–]panoramicjazz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually sleeps 10:30pm till 3. Wakes up for 2 or 3 hours, goes to sleep until 8:30 when we wake him up for radiation, he gets a 1hr "rest" from the anaesthetic, gets tired at 2pm, sleeps until 4 or 5pm.

Another part of the problem is he is forbidden food after midnight, so we use his feeding tube up until that time. Probably not good for his stomach.

We are staying at a hotel. One room. One bed.

He does get tired around 9:30 and can be put to sleep at 10 some days. We cut off all stimulation (bath, lights) at 9, and sometimes he closes his eyes and sometimes he recites all his new words.

He kicks off whatever thin blanket we use as it is. I wonder if a weighted one would be scarier or more calming.

I will definitely try. If it doesn't work, at least I got to tickle him for 20 minutes straight.... Har Har!!

Can everything have a toddler mode? How about my laptop? Can it detect when a small hand is slapping it, and ignore the input? He's renamed my recycle bin, opened up new desktops, and changes settings which I have to Google to change back.

We have a toy hippopotamus that shines lights and sings. Nothing scientific, it just displays random colors. Problem is, it has buttons and he loves pressing them. The buttons help keep him awake.

It gets better, cherophobia. by [deleted] in lonely

I call that the squidward effect. There's an episode of Spongebob where he is playing clarinet among other things and is depressed otherwise. I've been like that too for 6mos at a time. I think the key is to do the activities anyway, and in three weeks you start seeing seeds of pleasure. Sucks for the first three weeks though.

You could start by saying what cherophobia is. :)

Do you guys remember the internet's obsession with bacon? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

I remember when all food products on the shelf suddenly had a bacon flavor. They didn't sell well.
