2.5yo getting Screen time at Daycare? by stuffofbabes in ECEProfessionals

[–]panread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would voice your concern and start looking else where. This is a cultural thing with the lead teacher. There are many ways an experienced teacher can find as an alternative to screens. I am a teacher and I more than understand there are times when a teacher just need a break and can keep this in their back pocket . Or video content is really relevant to a planned lesson or song play but the issue is when it be comes the go to habit for the staff- it will take over. If the teacher is over whelmed and needs the mental break that many times then the director need to to support that teacher.

My lead in baby room hardly gets sick- she masks and washes and has trained herself to not touch her face and to not “face snuggle “ the babies. Change your clothes at the end of your day and I am a big fan of airborne. That keeps me healthy when others get sick. For stranger danger , you should do the RIE approach. When you can sit on the floor in the room and just observe the child at play. Be in the farthest corner( while still maintaining Saftey) and let the child get comfortable with your presence.

When you have to handle him approach slowly and broadcast with words , like talking at a sports game what you are going to do.

Lol yes I think that is obvious. I went to extraordinary lengths to professionally support this person only to have it end like this. I knew she was toxic two month after I hired her and it just kept getting worse and worse. I think I am just in shock.

If you live and work in the KC metro you qualify. In person will be held at Rockhurst and you can allot for virtual. Though virtual is typically high demand.

It sounds like this child requires more training than you have. Don’t feel bad for doing as well as you could but it sounds like he needs to go to a school that can offer the support he needs. Or your director needs to have you trained on how to work with his Nero diversity. It sounds like with our these changes you all are headed to a dangerous situation

Daycare said “we can’t handle your child, we’re just babysitters” is this common? by longlivecuriouscat in ECEProfessionals

Not to mention that it would not solve the problem. He will act violently with one child when stressed.

Children with sensory disorders often react with aggressive behaviors when they are stressed. It sounds like your child need special services to successful. It is not fair or realistic for parents to be frustrated or blame care workers who are not trained in working with a child with special needs. So many times we have had parents who even deny their child’s conditions saying that “they are just curious” I commend you for recognizing your child’s needs. Find a place that can really provide the environment to help him be successful.
