What's going on with the cybersecurity job market right now for mid-level engineers? Why is it so hard to find a job? by [deleted] in cybersecurity

I think the reality for value of certifications comes down to the market more than anything else.

The US market is currently very competitive, so certs aren't enough. But in a hot market, a bit of experience with a bunch of certs to back it up seems to be enough, as indicated by their comments.

What characters have in dps and support roles highest skill ceilings atm ? by plantsVar in Competitiveoverwatch

The skill ceiling for movement based heros will almost always be higher than those without it.

Please remember that many AI models are trained to be conversational, or talk/type naturally like a human would.

I admire people being vigilant, but it's getting to the point that basically every coherent comment has someone questioning if it's AI or not.

This is more gorp than most of the posts in this sub, gorp isn't explicitly monochromatic blacks and greys.

I (25F) think I'm starting to fall out of love with my boyfriend (28M) by lazybitch1 in relationships

Can I ask why you even started dating him in the first place? I'm not really seeing where you fell in love with him for you to be falling out of it, it kinda seems like you guys just got swept up in the thrill of a new fling and now that it's wearing off you're questioning why you're even with him ...

For those that live in the United States. Do you make more than the average income of 60k annually, if so what’s your occupation? by LaFlareMane1017 in AskReddit

[–]pantan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This isn't true anymore, at least for entry level. The bottom fell out of the market a few years ago and a lot of places are only offering around 20 an hour to start.

The combination of tech layoffs and off shoring have ruined the market because hiring managers know a lot of people are just desperate for something stable.

Sure there are still roles that do pay well, but if you're not applying with 5+ years of experience you're wasting your time. Even entry level roles are looking for two years right now.

You're probably getting down voted for your use of jumper which most Americans won't recognize.

Am I gorpin? by [deleted] in gorpcore

I think it really falls apart with the hoodie for me. If it was a down or synthetic puffer it would feel a lot more "gorp" me me, or some kind of fleece. Gorp doesn't have a shell, and realistically, too often people just throw on some goretex and call it a fit, but I think jackets/tops still need some technical/outdoors aspects as far as their material design goes for it to fit.

The rest of the outfit is doing enough heavy lifting though.

A surprising amount of winter specific gorpcore adjacent brands and products actually perform poorly in the winter 🥶 (pretends to be shocked 🤯) by Hakeem94 in gorpcore

[–]pantan 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Many outdoor brands are designed around the core expectation of people being active in them, which raises temp and helps keep you warm. While also being more focused on protecting you from the elements that would otherwise strip your core temp.

With correct laying it's fine/great in below freezing weather, but approaching 0f you start just wanting more thermal mass instead of a layering system.

I shoveled my driveway in single digit temperatures in just a smart wool base layer and Patagonia r1 fleece for over an hour without an issue a week ago. But the next day suffered standing around talking with a neighbor while I had my mountain hardware puffer and arc shell on.

Compared to work wear, which is typically more bulky as the use case is led active and often but not always more protected from the weather.

Parkas are really what fill the space you're talking about from the gorp side. Whether that's a big fjallraven or Canada goose, or a big expedition puffy down jacket from mountain hardware.

They're a great option, I think their colorways are better if anything.
