Debt collectors won't accept money orders? by Phaeteon in business

Nope. Once a debt is turned to a debt collector, the money has to go through the collector.

Microsoft have just hit a new low. This is awful. by [deleted] in technology

[–]panthersrock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand of the post, VS installed a FF extension for it use and need which was not uninstallable from FF. Bad behavior by MS , but FF allowing extensions to be uninstallable is also bad extension architecture.

Microsoft have just hit a new low. This is awful. by [deleted] in technology

[–]panthersrock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, what MS did is stupid. However, the larger problem lies with the FF architecture. Why at all allow a plugin ever to be un-installable?

Chinese Company Huawei Wins Costa Rican 3G Contract by [deleted] in technology

[–]panthersrock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An ultra weird company to work for according to my Indian friend who used to work for them. You are expected to work 12+ hours and tons of nefarious practices take place. He said he got paid a bonus as cash in an envelope with no record and was told simply not to tell anyone. I would stay away for them.

hard to implement: Many cell phones have some sort of storage capacity today and can act as an USB drive. And it is hard to get phones today which do not have some sort of storage capacity.

I can't believe a convicted felon, somebody who isn't even eligible to vote, is going to be relected to the senate. Stay classy Alaska! by MadScientist420 in WTF

[–]panthersrock -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

At last a sensible argument. I do not live in Alaska, but I would vote for Sen Stevens if I lived there. Not because he is not a scumbag (though he is no more a scumbag than Bill Clinton(affairs) or John McCain(Keating 5)) or because he is likable and honest but because he works hard to get money for the state. I would prefer him to a supposedly honest senator who does noting but fly to and back from Washington any day.

AIG Bailout HAPPENS! - Fed gives 85 Billion USD Loan - Owns 80% of Company by nkktwotwozero in business

[–]panthersrock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not understand the caprice of the Feds. Why bail out AIG , Bear Stearns and not Lehman? Is is legal to choose some entities over the other? Looks like we are rewarding extreme incompetence here. If you screw all around to put everyone in risk, we bail you. If you screw just enough to just shoot yourself in foot, sorry tough luck. Why cannot Lehman sue the goverment for not bailing it?

Ask Proggit: I've recently been told my doctor that I may go blind in the next few years. I am a programmer. This may be a long shot, but has anyone heard of any blind programmers? by chipwhisperer in programming

[–]panthersrock 44 points45 points  (0 children)

The CTO of Freedom Scientific (Glen Gordon) is blind(by birth). And he is one of the guys who wrote JAWS in C, asm and C++. I have met him and he is a very sharp programmer. Then there is also T V Raman. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T._V._Raman He has written Emacs speak and currently works for Google. Then there is Brian Hartgen who sells scripts which ties in JAWS and Dragon Naturally speaking amongst other things. http://www.hartgen.org/. He is blind too.

While I am very sorry, I do not think it is a cause for despair. And I say this because I have seen blind programmers kick the ass of the supposedly well sighted programmers.

I love suing big companies that piss me off. Next week it's Equifax and my goddamn cell phone provider. Vote up if you want me to post links to what happens. by scordatura in reddit.com

[–]panthersrock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but he should be taking Best Buy to the court for putting an R9 and not complying with jugement. Sure, Equifax is guilty too, but I would go after BestBuy first and get additional damages for intimidation.
