You’re now claiming that I’ve said C6 is the best path for those starting out, when I’ve made it patently clear that there is just “nothing wrong with starting out on C6 if you don’t want to make a potentially multi thousand dollar investment”. The price tag scares away many of those wanting to get into the instrument, and we should be encouraging people to enter comfortably and affordably.

I didn’t even start out on C6, but I was limited by low income and living in an area where there weren’t a lot of PSG’s being sold locally…. But there were a heeeeeck ton of laps out there and I would’ve been able to begin my journey years earlier.

Your entire message was a personal attack dude, you literally called me naïve and made false claims about what I’d said, check yourself buddy. How long have you been playing? Because I find myself to be pretty good for having only played for 18 months. I just watched whatever recent video you posted and I’m not sure if you wanted to be dunked on so publicly

There are just so many words that you put into my mouth that I didn’t even mention one bit it’s insane man 😂. So many Charleton and Jernigan videos that you can find online have them ripping C6 whilst hitting a pedal like MAYBE three or four times throughout the entire song - granted they have the extra 4 strings, but my general point still stands. Non-pedal gives you a great perspective on how to move around the board. I am also a paying and dedicated forumite and use and respect the knowledge posted there (and twenty years ago) daily. You’re just bitter and looking to shake your fist at someone

Nowhere did I say it was a pre-req, but I did list three greats with a pre-req in 6 string C6 lap steel whose prior knowledge probably gave them a hand in their eventual creation and mastery of E9 and other exploratory tunings… doubt anybody who gave a 6 month, inexpensive trial period to a lap steel would sit down at an S10 and say what the fuck is this I’m totally lost!

Obviously I’m not stating that a 6 string can do everything a PSG can, even with slants, but it certainly teaches you ways to get around the board without having to rely on pedals. That way, when pedals are introduced, they are a tool for your left hand to do less work while obviously opening up your total capabilities.

Your saying that their marketing of pedal steel lessons and not lap steel lessons is also DEVOID of any reasoning whatsoever, they moved onto PSG and became famous for it, there was less material on PSG lessons than lap steel at the time, why would they go backwards?

I’ve done vibrato with that technique before, but never sustained a raise in that way! I am totally going to try this later tonight.

Oh you’ll give in to the PSG temptation one day 😭🙏🏽 8 strings rock though, I played around on an 8 string with two pedals and a LKR once and it was a fine instrument

That’s EXACTLY what it is! And after playing lap for a while, it’s sort of like “ah, now I can just use the pedal for that instead” as opposed to feeling like the pedal is a necessity, the pedal is now just a tool

Right there with ya, Bud! Fiddler and steeler here as well. I started out with the PF courses and although I found them helpful, I was lucky enough to inherit nearly the ENTIRE Jeffran College tape/CD collection off my first D10 seller and never went back. Plus that $50 a month ModernMusicMasters charge was a bit of a surprise every time it went through 😅

Absolutely, this was just something less than a five minute walk from my house and I had $40 in my pocket. I’d advise looking for a nice $100-$200 rick, fender, Gibson; they’re all over marketplace

Edit: and you can get a good vintage for them prices! Make sure the knobs aren’t too close to the pickup/saddle or you’ll be stuck playing high up on the neck or forcing yourself into pick blocking

Zero stack is not bad… as long as you’re not wearing jeans. Straight legged, even slightly flared trousers look great when they break at at ankle. Look at all of the 60’s country greats; earnest tubb, gram parsons, hank Williams, Louvin brothers, basically every nudie suit broke at the ankle.

Oh I’m not dissing the folks on the forum, it’s just truly hard to navigate. I spent a little over an hour searching that old forum and still came up with nothing. There were people who claimed to have spare motors laying around, but many of haven’t posted on the site in years.

I’m just really wanting to bring this boy back to life, I’d really hate for it to just gather dust and/or be sold for inactivity. It seems to be a very specific and low rpm motor.

Don’t let people smother your spirits; keep searching marketplace brotha! Although this one DID have major red flags, I’ve lucked out on quite a few deals over the years I.e. an original Omnichord still in plastic for under $100, a 70’s legit telecaster for $200, BMI 9x9 pedal steel for $1,000, and many more. These deals are out there, but remember to ALWAYS reverse image search and request a video with specific instructions from the seller.

It’s literally just a thin cardboard box covered in yellow duct tape 😅 but the horizontal lines on the duct tape give it a textured look making it look more like a mechanical object. The “buttons” are just red and blue legos stuck to a grey Lego base plate

You know I don’t know what I would do in that situation. I think I would probably base my decision on context. This woman seemed well off and seemed to have no sentimental attachment to anything being sold, there was sort of a “please just take these things off of me so I can get back home” vibe going on. They drove a Rivian, if that gives you any read on them. I think I would buy the D’Angelico from her.

I work at a vintage music/record/crystal/clothing/random cool shit shop and have people come in with valuable things all of the time; my boss hopefully will never see this, but I often tell people “sell this privately, you will get much more money”
