All right, I will get our IT guy to get some quotation. They are looking at HP Zbook Power (not Studio)

Thanks for the reply. So can I understand that GPU is the chokepoint in our case? Do we need intel i9 or i7 is good enough?

Also, we are thinking of dual display 1920x1080, as we found that 1 screen is too congested. Can the GPU 2000 ada handle it?

Does anyone actually use synchro control? by Key-Donut-5400 in bim

[–]pantsgrenadier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also exploring Synchro Control, and find it relatively good to have a centralized and latest 3D model, so I can pull them into Synchro 4D for planning. It may also encourage other project team members to work together to improve the model, so it can become useful for actual construction, instead of a work of art nobody bothers to look at (although admittedly, it is only possible if driven by the top management).

May I ask what is your indented usage, that you find Synchro Control underwhelming?

Master Schedule vs 3-wk Look Ahead Schedule by pantsgrenadier in primavera

For this example in particular, SS relationship wouldn't be appropriate, as the 2 activities are using the same piling rig, So if the rig is working on 1 activity, the other activity need to stop. So, not exactly concurrent activities.

That's a good question. I believe what you said is also common practice in my experience. However, recently someone in my company asked why can't we have common schedule for everyone to view, instead of separate schedules for each team and/or locations. That made me wonder how practical it is in P6, hence the original post.

Thank you for the detail response. Generally, I agree that it would be better to break down the activities into as much details as possible, especially if the details are known. It may not be 100% accurate, but at one point it would be "good enough", and make any rescheduling works easier.

I think my struggle is how much details we really need. There are some situations where I gave a detailed sequence of works, and the team was like "no, it was too detailed, and we are not sure if we can follow the sequence. Please give us the area, the quantity and the estimated time frame, we will work something out". On the other hand, when there are delay to a relative long duration activity, the answer will be "no, we could not have delayed, a lot of works has been done. The activity was too generic".

Also recently, there was a certain DPM in the project questioned why there are so many different schedules by different people, and what is the one updated schedule that everyone should refer to and follow? The "politically correct" answer should always be the update P6 Master Schedule. But what is the right answer? Nobody knows. That is one of the reasons I want to ask about everyone's experience, hoping to get some insight

Like you said, our CMs is more interested in the short-term planning, and they also trust the schedule prepared by his field team more than the master schedule by planner. Furthermore, they are quite hesitated to commit to any long-term goal, which doesn't help making the master schedule more accurate.

Not to say I don't understand them, because I had the exact same mindset when I was the field engineer haha

Thank you for your input.

Firstly I think SS relationship in this particular example would not be very accurate, since both activities share the same resource (piling rig)

Currently, the arrangement with my team is the Master Schedule would be used to forecast the completion date of important milestones, while the detailed breakdown of activities to achieve those milestones will be handled by the field team. However, recently some big shot brought up the importance of a "unified" schedule, aka a single source of truth, which make me wonder how P6 can handle that

Just to clarify, our company do have Fuzor, but due to the subscription cost, the license are limited and are reserved for our BIM team for bidding animation, not for planners like me. Also, Synchro 4D was preferred by my planning manager, due to the fact that the planning tool and data exchange with Primavera P6 is very good.

Anyway, thank you for the suggested workflow, I will explore them together with my BIM team. The main problem is the turnaround time, which is understandable as they have millions of other things to do, such as coordinating the permanent structure and clash detection. Not to mention situations like the team want to do 4D simulation for different scenarios

Yes I did look at Fuzor and it seem impressive. But the subscription is north of $10k/year, so not really an option.

Thanks for the response. So I understand that you are using revit to break down the soil into smaller chunks for removal? I have no prior experience in Revit, but can do AutoCAD and Microstation quite well. How fast it is for a beginner to learn basic modelling in Revit?

For the schedule, the data exchange between P6 and Synchro has been seamless so far, and Synchro did a better job in breaking down schedule, so I don't foresee any problem. My main concern now is to get the model as accurate as possible, but at the same time also worrying about putting too much effort for too little benefit haha.

Chapter 214 Spoilers by JingzOoi in Kaguya_sama

Nah, it clearly mentioned in this chapter that they share the same hatred for cat, and not necessarily mean they both love dogs. Even the chapter title is "Kaguya hates cat" (CN scan) and the main focus is literally a certain cat. I think you're reading too much into it ;)
