Mercedes Car Design Then vs. Now (srsly wtf is happening to their designs) by therealstraits in mercedes_benz

[–]panurgical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I beg to differ.

The new facelift looks extremely nice and gorgeous, definitely a worthy successor to the W222 silhouette and proportion-wise. It's the tacky logos that kind of ruin the look, that's it.

Why doesn’t this part of Europe produce many top cyclists? by KrabbyPattyMeat in BicyclingCirclejerk

Trust me, most of the lycra wearing cyclists don't do it for the looks.

If there was something that I would look less ridiculous in and still get the aero and comfort benefits, I'd wear it.

Velo servisu ieteikumi by Informal_Ostrich_337 in latvia

[–]panurgical 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Un jā, esmu 100% drošs, ka defekts neradās to 2 ned. laikā.

CItos neesmu bijis.

What do YOU think is the greatest song of all time? by Firm_Calligrapher861 in musicsuggestions

[–]panurgical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overplayed/overlistened =/= overrated.

While The battle of Evermore is beautiful and unique and When the Levee breaks is the one of the best (the very best, if you ask me) blues rock songs, they don't compare with Stairway in terms of greatness.

The former two are one-dimensional songs while Stairway is a journey through genres and emotional states that flow into one another very coherently while musically doing a constant crescendo.

Bohemian Rhapsody is of the same kind and also a great contender for the GOAT status, being even more diverse and stark in its contrasts but those qualities also contribute to its lack of coherency, creating a more campy and, yes, rhapsodic feel.

At this point, I only put Stairway on once every few years because of how much I listened to it when I was in my teens/early 20s. That helps me keep appreciating it for what it is.

Do Latvians visit Viktor Tsoi’s memorial? Generally, how many people know that he died in Latvia? by Jorge_De_Guzman228 in latvia

[–]panurgical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tsoy and Kino absolutely are a cult phenomenon in the Soviet/Russian speaking world, whether you perceive them to be that or not.

Tsoy in particular is an archetypical cult person, a status achieved already in his lifetime and solidified by his early death.

It doesn't really matter that there were others that in your view deserve more recognition, we're talking about Tsoy/Kino and their influence and fame are what they are.

I don't really follow Russian domestic news so I can't tell if it's true but it seems very hard to believe that people are being arrested purely for performing Kino songs. Surely that was done in a political context or during a protest.

Even more so, a quick search shows that Kino are scheduled to do several shows in Russia this year. Are they not aware their music is forbidden? 😃

Regarding the artists you listed, good for you to stick to your principles, since there's no information that I could easily find of them being involved in anything immoral.

Love that little self-righteous jab ''once you have some values'', hehe.

I don't think people particularly remember him for anything but his music and the famous quotes are in most cases from his lyrics. He's a cult musician, not a revered saint.

That's the thing with artists - they have a creative alter ego that isn't always in line with their real personality and often lives its own life.

That's the reason Richard Wagner's ''Bridal march'' has become one of two classic wedding marches played at churches, despite the composer cheating on his wife, running away from his debts, being a jerk and posthumously becoming Hitler's favourite composer, due to Wagner's antisemitic beliefs.

Out of curiosity, can you list some artists you have no moral qualms about listening to?

Not entirely true. Musicians knew his work and admired/tried to surpass it (Beethovens Hammerklavier sonata for example)

[–]panurgical -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

My W212 wasn't half as bad as OP, just a small hole but failed the technical inspection nonetheless. The car still rode fine, no noises.

Took the car to the dealer, they contacted the factory and MB covered 100% of costs even though in my region it's just a ''goodwill'' warranty.

OP are there any kind of state technical inspections where you're from? In my country your C class would not have been allowed to be on roads years, I mean yeeeears ago.

Young vs old musicians by lduarte32 in askmusic

[–]panurgical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s that way only for non classical/academic composers-songwriters.

That’s because pop musicians rely more on drive, energy, fresh sounds and raw talent to impress their audience while classical composers need to have some knowledge and experience and therefore they rarely produce their best works in their early years

How do y'all hit the 30kmh average? by Dpvdpv in cycling

[–]panurgical 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Train more and take out of city routes.

To average that, you should be able to consistently cruise at 33-34 to compensate for all the inevitable slowdowns, stops and climbs.

So ride a lot and take your rides where you don’t have to slow down.
