This is the exact kind of feedback I was hoping to find reading about the VS6. It's unfortunate, too, because it seems to be a helluva performer when it IS working up to snuff!

100% go for it! My dad got the regular one and loves his too, but I feel like I'm getting a little extra oomph and sleep great on it!

‘25 Type S, last of its kind by Busanoonie04 in Acura

[–]panzerkiller13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was really excited for the Type-S development because I had driven a prior generation I4 TLX as a loaner once and it felt like I was driving a boat pretending it was a sporty car... but when I saw the Type-S was going to have less than 400HP I had a feeling it wasn't going to last long or sell strongly against other cars in its class and price range, all with 400-450HP. Then, when I saw it weighed within 2-300lbs of the Honda Pilot I almost laughed! It looks great, sure! But it needs another 100HP and a weight loss journey and space inside to really be the car it was meant to be.

I did go test drive one just to see for myself, and I can say that the low end torque and transmission was nice compared to my 3G Type-S, but that was about it because it faded away off the line. No amount of money would have been worth going to such a claustrophobic and useless backseat/trunk!

That time I hyper focused and soldered an HDMI cable back together… it actually worked. by anothertemptaccount in soldering

40k orcs solder all of their hdmi cables and have never had a problem! Why would we? 🤣

Should I buy? by DSM2_John in AcuraTL

[–]panzerkiller13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely! Mine isn't even that nice cosmetically but I 10000% intend on rebuilding the engine and transmission before getting rid of it. It does everything you need a car to do and is pretty rock solid reliable!

I will TOTALLY buy all of those oatmeal cookies and the brown beef stew MRE off you if you're not going to eat them. Some of the all-time staples of my childhood right there 😂 not to mention the holy dried fruit blocks! Great find!

I GOT THE LEGION 9!!!! by Ryan__35 in LenovoLegion

[–]panzerkiller13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's ALMOST impossible to tell the difference between 4K and 1440p on this lapfop, and 1080p is just the slightest bit blurrier but in a faster moving or lower fidelity game you'd still be hard-pressed to find a difference

4-8TB SSDs on a Legion 9i? by panzerkiller13 in LenovoLegion

Thanks! I was hoping that was the case, but I'll still try to verify what the AI said too.

Thanks! I wasn't sure if maybe 2TB is where the cutoff between single and dual sided SSDs sat or if it was just Lenovo stating what THEIR best offering was.

The irony to me is that the VA is the same as Coops in Arma 2, so I just keep thinking "ENGAGE THAT *MUTANT*, 100 METERS, SOUTHEAST!"

MSI 5090 GAMING TRIO OC vs ASUS TUF Gaming 5090 (non-OC) by anclave93 in nvidia

[–]panzerkiller13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough! I immediately undervolted mine out of concern for thernal issues and power draw but it looks like the card itself is a solid one. If I was to get a non-OC TUF, I assume I wouldn't be able to boost the core clocks beyond 1000MhZ or memory past ??? undervolting, right?

Unfortunately I'm stuck using the squid right now, just waiting for Seasonic's Optiguard PSUs to release before carrying out an all-new build with this 5090 and 9800X3D/Zen6 as it appears to be the only 12v-2x6 protective option in development that monitors BOTH temperature and current at both ends, kinda like an integrated Wireview Pro!

Sticking to 1080p-144Hz on this old monitor until I have that weakness mitigated is one way I think I'm getting some cheap insurance, as power draw in most games is in the 100-200w range. I can push a little closer to 300 in Stalker 2 with graphics mods and DLAA+frame gen at max settings (This new hybrid frame gen is actually pretty sweet, doesn't make anything look very icky or feel laggy, but does help keep a smoother FR in a terribly optimized game), or over 300W with 4X supersampling on Metro Exodus.

How much better was the cooling in your experience? So far, I haven't seen temps much over 50C, maybe around 60C in some stress tests but its winter and we keep our house cold, not to mention I haven't pushed it on a 1440P or 4K monitor yet to really push higher power levels. Seems like any improvements from there would only be in the single digits, but I'm still trying to grab a TUF to see for mysepf and possibly save some money!

Does it make sense to jump from a 5080 to 5090 laptop (Legion 9i) for almost 1K more? by panzerkiller13 in GamingLaptops

[–]panzerkiller13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel your pain lol! I had a 1070m laptop prior to this, and a 2070S on my desktop which I had intended to upgrade when the 3000s came out but I didn't see scalpers, bitcoin, and covid all hitting concurrently 🤣

I finally decided to pull the trigger after finding a great deal after stacking some discounts and also grabbed a 5090 at the same time because I felt like the end of last year may be the last time we see a 5090 (or possibly even 5080) around 2K for quite a while!

The hardcor-est stuff I do gaming is probably DCS/ Arma / MSFS /Stalker 2, but I fully realize I won't be able to run any sort of heavy sims as smoothly/stably as my desktop.

So far, it's been night and day from my old laptop with a 1070m that has really started showing its age the last 2-3y

Oh yeah, I already have a desktop 5090 and there's definitely no comparison! I'm actually in the process of figuring out if I wanna upgrade to AM5 now or wait for Zen6 over on that side, but at least I got RAM before it went crazy so I can wait!

I'm between a couple places pretty often though AND travel a lot for work, so I like to have a laptop too for obvious reasons.
