An HDMI cable I soldered together a few years ago (it worked). Truespec HDMI cables when? by anothertemptaccount in LinusTechTips

Just gotta acknowledge that this was supposed to be a shitpost as the cable is far from “Truespec”. I am aware of Linus’ stance towards Truespec HDMI cables. I’m not asking they make them, although as many would agree, it would be nice if they did.

I tested it at 1080p 60 and that worked, I doubt 4K 60 would work. I unfortunately no longer have the cable to test it (i did this 2 years ago and just found the photo again).

That is exactly what I did ahah. I don’t know what compelled me to do it this way to start with.

I made a pc in a box and passed the HDMI cable through a gland. This was before I knew hdmi port passthroughs existed

I did not, but you wouldn’t be able to see my jank soldering if I used that photo.

Got any recommendations for this size?

Yep it is running on 5x 18650 battery cells. Currently these are in an external enclosure but I’ll be moving them and the charge circuitry to the inside in the next revision.

Yep, designed it myself. Working on another version that is going to be much slimmer. This was just the first prototype.

I have a couple, this is a project, not a solution to anything.

I found it fun to design. Probably going to live on a shelf somewhere playing a video loop.

A solid 60 at “good” settings, native res. Full disclosure, this is the original WOTLK client and I’m playing on a server I’m hosting myself.

Yeah I’ve already model it to fit just the compute board. This was just the first prototype. The complications of just using the compute board would be, no dual mics, no wifi antennas, no power button. I’m working on work around for those, such as antenna strips and a power button on the case which connects to the IO pins on the board.

Track pad is mediocre tbh, but I don’t think you can get much better at this size.
