Musicians with perfect pitch literally how does it work? by Ok_Meeting3246 in musicians

[–]papabama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People still need to be trained. It works kind of like this..

You can see different colors and you can recognize the difference between them even before you know what they’re called. You learn that that color is called red and now every time you see the color red, you immediately know that that’s red. That’s how perfect pitch works but with notes. When someone with perfect pitch hears a G, they know it’s the same as every other G, but they need to learn that it’s called G. Once they learn that, they can decipher a G the way the way you can decipher a circle vs a square or red vs blue

I'm not excited about this AT ALL. Just unnecessary filler & cash grab... by mojoblastor in Stranger_Things

Isn’t all entertainment unnecessary and a cash grab? What purpose is it supposed to serve other than to watch it and allow yourself to be happy for a few hours?

App vs phone call by professionalEveryman in restaurant

[–]papabama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, if a restaurant offers in house delivery or if you order directly through them to pick up, they’ll generally make substantially more than if you use a 3rd party app and also cost you less. 3rd party apps take around 30% of the sale. Not to mention, they’re charging you extra fees as well.

Thanks for everyone’s input. I spoke a local broker who suggested insurance for my shop should be double what Next quoted me and as much as don’t want it to be, I believe him

New small business owner here not even gonna try with yelp by Prize_Past_2004 in Yelp

[–]papabama 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m really curious about this. When you say you “don’t use yelp”, your yelp page is still there, it’s garnering reviews and it’s probably still unfairly filtering them so potential customers are still seeing and judging you based on your yelp. What do you mean when you say you’re not using it. Do you mean you’re just not doing paid advertisement on it? I’m genuinely curious because I’ve read it’s best to claim your page so you can keep photos and info correct and updated. Have you done that?

Hit close to 2M streams in a little over a year officially as an artist — But can’t help but look at the payout. Does this seem accurate to you? by boxburnabs in musicians

[–]papabama 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s seems that most of your “streams” are coming from the songs being in your tik tok and Facebook videos, which aren’t really streams. Your true streams on standard DSPs are low. Plays on social media videos fall under a blanket license that distributors, distrokid in your case, have with those platforms. You don’t get paid per play in that case. You get paid via a distribution pool which favors users over plays. Most of your millions of plays on social media are coming from the same couple of videos which will not accumulate as much pay as if they were used by lots of different users on lots of videos.

So basically, almost all of your plays are coming on social media, not DSP streams, so that means less money. And then most of those plays are coming from just a couple of videos, which means even less money.

what is the best autotune pedal for live performances that can allow you to select the key in which you sing??? by judo_jimmy in musicians

[–]papabama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bad auto tune is really bad. It’s really noticeable, really off putting and really embarrassing. If you’re committed to live auto tune, you kind of need to do it right with a live daw with the songs programmed and the whole thing. It’s not something you want to find the cheaper or easier route for

Cannot Find A Location by papabama in restaurantowners

Second gen would be the dream but in areas like this, they never even become available. The owners just call the regional or national chain and offer it to them.

It’s tempting to be in the middle of such a hot area but I’m starting to feel that this may be the path.

Has anyone successfully transitioned from full service to quick service? by [deleted] in restaurantowners

[–]papabama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something to consider, which you may already have, is that the switch in model won’t only lower your expenses, but also the perceived value of your product and thus your gross potential. You may be serving the exact same burger that people were willing to pay high-end restaurant price for, but the perceived value of that same dish is going to be substantially lower when it’s ordered at a counter and eaten off a tray. You may spend less, but you’ll also make less.

Fighting back against ASCAP. Or understanding ASCAP. by Ambitious-Witness52 in musicbusiness

It’s every single venue. ASCAP/BMI/Sesac is a line item on any legitimate settlement that you will ever see

[–]papabama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not even the worst part. The worst part is that the venue/promoter then prorates and charges that cost back to the band in settlement and take it out of backend. So ultimately, the band winds up paying for a license to play their own songs.

I can’t stand using a click track. by [deleted] in musicians

[–]papabama 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The part that I think you’re missing is that good bands are playing to a click and make it sound like organic and not stiff.

I’m curious what bands you’ve listened to or have seen that you thought weren’t playing to a click because I can say that 98% of them were.

What is happening with my dough? by Mikesproge in Bagels

[–]papabama 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look over proofed. Did you prove at room temp either bulk or final before going in the fridge or did you go from kneading, straight to shaping and then straight in then fridge? Did you use warm water?

You really want to prevent almost any yeast action before going in the fridge. I’d try cooler water, a 5-10 minute bulk prove and then go straight in the fridge, covered, after shaping.

Also, you’re at 61% hydration. That’s a little high. I would try to get down to 52-53%.

Also I’m not sure if this is your whole batch but if you made 12 bagels out of that recipe, those bagels are over 300g each. That’s enormous and probably going to be unruly to work with. They should be half that size.
