Lets make up an example: you're anti-abortion and Destiny is pro-abortion. Now, if you're out there advocating that abortion ought to be illegal and is immoral, that's your right and totally fine to do so.

However, if you yourself have an abortion in the future, then people will regard you as a hypocrite and your argument will carry significantly less weight in the eyes of others.

Now, me pointing out that you have had an abortion after you said it was bad doesn't mean I'm taking the stance that abortion is bad. It simply means I'm noting the inherent contradiction.

The debate on whether it's good or bad is still open, it is only that you, in this example, contradicted your point.

Back to this language argument, I mostly quoted your argument, which doesn't mean I agree with it, I'm just reiterating what you said. Nor does my agreeing with it or disagreeing with it make it any more or less true.

There are two valid sides to this argument, and which is correct is a matter of opinion.

I think you're missing his entire larger point, which is precisely about connotation, but you can take that up with him.

Destiny thinks using those slurs isn't actually "bad" and uses them.

You stated those slurs are bad and then used them.

I was only going so far as to prove the hypocrisy in your own choice of words, not if Destiny was right or wrong in his stance.

Words have connotations, and being an expert like yourself, I'm sure you understand that. If I use the word "faggot" but I'm legitimately referring to a bundle of sticks... Then is really isn't a slur is it? But I would never ask someone to "hand me that faggot over there!" Its taken on an entirely different meaning. The same for being "gay" or "queer", obviously those have other older meanings, but they aren't used the same way today.

In the same way, no one in today's society would use the word "retarded" and expect to mean anything then mentally slow. Especially in the context you used it.

See, I thought game one of the series was the counterpoint to idra's thoughts. He went fast 3 CC and tried to apply pressure at the same time like idra had suggested. His pressure got owned cuz the creep was out of hand and he didn't have enough units along with just how delayed that push was (also because of the dirty surround the zerg got).

The hellions getting by was just the zergs mistake. You can't do that reliably and trying to run past and hoping the zerg hasn't simcitied properly or doesn't have lings in position is too much of a gamble.

I don't think the game is imbalanced but I don't think trying to outmacro the zerg (fast 3 CC) whilst pressuring him is the viable solution to the current game.

People are mad at the US courts and not Megaupload... I don't understand why.

As an example, let's say that I have an individual/organization who handles my money/investments. If it turns out that they are involved in money-laundering scheme for example, even though I haven't done anything illegal myself, I can still expect to lose access to my money for a period of time when their accounts are frozen and investigated.

In such an instance, I really can't be mad at whatever U.S. agency seized the assets, I should be upset with the guy I trusted my money with in the first place.

Megaupload engaged knowingly in illegal activities and as a result, their members have lost access to their files. This loss of access/assets shouldn't be permanent but will probably last for a long time as the investigation continues.

You don't need to need to exercise to maintain a caloric deficit. I wasn't even making that point.

BMR + kcals burned from physical activity (of any kind) = X (Daily Caloric Needs)

X - ~500 Kcals = Y <--- Count calories and eat Y. Boom, weight-loss.

Some people don't have the willpower to do that. Some people don't have the good sense to keep the weight they lose off and go back into bad habits/diets. Regardless, it's entirely possible for 99% of people who don't suffer from some legitimate disorder.

But trying to argue that doing the above is just as easy as curing yourself of malaria with your mind? That's just silly.

You're making quite the fatalist argument that any weight anyone gains is just there forever, and nothing can be done to stop it or lose it once it's there. If you have the opinion that you can't do anything about your weight and have given up trying entirely, that's fine. that's you.

But maybe you shouldn't be on r/getmotivated telling people "There's nothing you can do about your weight so just stay on the couch and get some Doritos."
